After much searching I was able to get YouTube to play on idrive8 with CarPlay. It plays pretty much perfectly, its super clear and it also has the ability to fill up the whole screen. I didn’t have to jailbreak my iPhone and I have not coded the car yet. I can’t tell you how dope this is for me. 💯🔥

The only other known way to achieve this I thought outside of jail breaking was a third party Apple CarPlay wireless dongle. I’m unsure how exactly that works here with idrive 8 which already uses wireless CarPlay…

Why can’t you do this in the first place? Seems reasonable if the car is in park? I would love to be able to mirror my iPhone to my BMW screen.

Ok so this is how I did it. You have to download trollstore to your iPhone and then download cartube. The trick is that cartube only works on IOS 15.6 and lower. So your iPhone cannot be updated. I used an old iPhone I had sitting around to do this. Idrive 8 allows multiple mobile devices so my current iPhone is hooked up to the Bluetooth of the car so I can use the phone with my current number and the old iPhone is hooked up to CarPlay at the same time. I have multiple numbers so the old iPhone has a data plan already. All wireless with the factory CarPlay setup and all touchscreen. You can’t use the scroller on cartube. YouTube works perfectly and looks great with this setup. Link to trollstore, cartube and YouTube video below. Enjoy and drive safe fellas. 💯😉

In fact is not iOS 15.6 and lower. iOS 13.7 and below will not work. (iPhone 6 doesn't work for example as the higher firmware for it is 12.5.5).

So it must be > iOS 13.7 and < iOS 15.6 (RC1/2)

It's funny why CarTube doesn't work with other signing stores like AltStore that is available for iOS 16. I can successfully launch the app on my phone, but it will not appear on CarPlay.

i heard that on Android you just download and sideload the cartube APK

i haven't tried it yet
