Thank you!
Out here there are no dealers willing to go that low. Given all the techno-riche customers willing to pay MSRP, the dealers have an attitude of "better to wait for the next sucker" than to undermine their price.

There are three BMW dealers in the region and they simply know that they don't have to compete too hard. I looked at pricing on a new M550 in Canada and was very tempted to buy there - it would have saved me nearly $8000 allowing for the negotiation, currency rate, and factoring in transportation, until I found out that US dealerships in the NW will not honor Canadian BMW warranties.
Warranty? You can't register a Canadian Car in the U.S.

Be careful. My SA said the 2K finance discount could not be combined with the $1K lease discount. Said they would only do one or the other. After I threatened to walk, the Sales Manager agreed to combine both deals. I essentially got 3K below invoice.
You can't combine finance and lease, they're two different things. Corporate can also not be combined. Only finance/ loyalty and USAA.

I was able to combine finance/loyalty ($2000) as well as lease ($1000). It took arm twisting but I got both plus Invoice.

That really sucks. Thing is with the M340i there is a ton of allocations and especially for larger dealerships. So at the end of the day it is not a matter of demand over supply. You could always find a dealer in another state and have the car shipped and still be ahead of the game.

I now you were a long time customer of that dealer, but are they willing to give somewhat similar deals for other potential customers? I would be willing to ship the car to LA at the price you are getting. Did your deal also include MSD's?

No MSD's and price included tax and tags. No doc fee or other dealer added items.

Actually, I looked at this and you can. Since the car is an import you need an EPA statement from BMW, which they will issue, stating that it meets US EPA/DOT requirements. Since the dash is digital you don't even need a conversion, it is a setting. Trust me, I looked into this one deeply.

Interesting. So, whereas historically a non-digital dash had to be physically converted, a digital dash can simply be recoded/software-swapped to a different region?

What is the total final added cost excluding shipping for buying a car in Canada and having it registered in the US?

Apparently there is a setting for display units (KPH vs. MPH). The Canadian dealership I spoke to was pretty emphatic on that point - No recoding necessary.

That depends on many variables: vehicle price, applicable state taxes, etc. Roughly not including the taxes or transportation, as long as the vehicle is compliant with US regulations you can get through all of the paperwork/registration for much less than $1k.

The hiccup here is that you have to purchase the vehicle first before BMW will issue the compliance paperwork required for you to submit your forms to customs at the border. That process takes a few days and the vehicle has to stay in CA. When coming in, it must be undercarriage washed, with no foreign soil or residue. I spoke to someone who did it here and it took a few trips back and forth to Vancouver from Seattle to get it done.

WA state will credit your Canadian taxes and licensing fees when you import the vehicle into the US - you end up paying off the delta between the two.

Remember in MD we're at a major disadvantage since we pay sales tax on the full price of the car instead of on the monthly payment like most other states. Even though the sales price may be similar the monthly payment will be a lot higher so keep that in mind.

Good point. Even with that, I'm hoping to get more off MSRP. Right now I'm seeing about ~5% which is higher than invoice. Claims of the car being "too new" for better deals. I got my 340i in 2016 for ~12% off so I'm hoping to get closer to that ...

5% is about right from msrp to invoice.

Good deal.

Great information. I was quoted $65,370 fully
Loaded M340 with all the Bells and whistles.
The dealer discounted it just over $3,800. Plus
$2,500 in Rebates. This will be my 4th 3 Series.
I will also receive the $500 BMWCCA rebate
Which will be our Third one. Our Selling Price
Will be $61,554. Is this a good price n discount?
Btw, how do the Rebates figure into the
Price. We are in Southern California & have used
The same BMW dealer. We did PCD in 2012 on
Our 2013. 335i. And plan on doing it again.
We plan to seal the deal this week. Oh.
Portimao Blue Metallic with Black Vernasca
Leather. N Blue contrast stitching/piping.
I look forward to your feedback. I’m new to
Bimmerpost. But have been a long time member
Of Bimmerfest and BMWCCA.
