Ordered a G21 Touring 318i M-sport this week. Dealer told me expected delivery time will be June/July 23 (!).

This is my 4th new BMW and all previous ones came in 10/11 weeks. Chips shortage and war Ukraine causing supply constraints supposedly.

Any experiences on recent lead times in EU?

Hi. I ordered an M340d touring at the beginning of 2/2022 and the car was delivered at the beginning of 10/2022. So it took 8 months in total. My salesman told me, I'm a lucky man. They say that no other customer of theirs has received a car so quickly in recent times. It should be noted that we had to reconfigure the car to the LCI version in May, which may have resulted in a slight delay.

Ordered my G20 320e at the end of August with expected delivery in the second week of January.

What I underestood is that dealers get production slots allocated or need to reserve them. So most likely it depends on the dealer?

Anyone got more background on how production slots are allocated among dealers?

Ordered an m340d in early October. Expected delivery was late March. Dealer called me yesterday that the car has been built and will be delivered in the end of November/early December.

Sounds like your dealer got hold of an additional production slot or changed one.

I need to manage my own expectations tho..

Today dealer can confirmed order is placed. Expected delivery date 28-JULY-2023.

This is very disappointing. But the reality I am afraid.

Do think it has to do with the production slots allocated to this dealer: as it's ordered via a lease operator it is not a priority to them hence not a priority order.

Got the call a couple of days ago. Taking delivery on Tuesday, so 4.5 months in total.

Thats a moment of joy! A Touring or sedan? I believe Tourings takes longer to deliver.

- a colleague of mine ordereded a G21 Touring 318i in June and took delivery on Dec 12 (roughly 5 months).

- my order has been processed early Dec with production not yet planned, estimated delivery 27-July-2023….. (8 months)

It's a sedan. I was contemplating a touring for a bit but went with the sedan. I drive a sedan today and was thinking about switching it up. But alas, maybe next time.

Picking it up tomorrow, so getting a bit exited haha.

That is not bad indeed. My assumption is that dealers allocate production slots in the near future to their better customers with high margin vehicles (yours). And a low margin fleet / lease car are pushed more towards the future.

You could be right. I have an order for a 330e via fleet solutions which i ordered in October but have a built date for 1st May with expected deliver July/August.

Yes that is my theory indeed. Maybe Tourings will take more time than Sedans as well. I will call the dealer (Broekhuis Harderwijk) and will give you an update once build date is confirmed.

This is my fourth new BMW lease / fleet in a row. The last three all took 10-12 weeks max!

I ordered an M340i 10 weeks ago, dealer got me a cancelled build slot, they put my spec on it and I’ve had the car for a month now…yes, 6 weeks from ordering and I picked it up…I fell lucky I guess

Now if only I could get better that 25 mpg

It does support my assumption that dealers prioritise build slots on high margin vehicles and ‘good customers’. Understand the principle, it’s basic economics at work but it does disappoint me as fan of the brand and as a loyal cumstomer for years (but via fleet services).

My 330e touring was ordered in early october and will be delivered 1st week of March. Also NL!
Yet it is getting an individual paint, so will take some additional time I guess… 🤷🏼

I wanted to share my experience as well.

I placed an order for a M340i, 12/11/2022, my dealer told my it is scheduled for production early Febrauary.

Couple days ago he called me again and told me that the vehicle is scheduled now for the 1st week of January and it already got a VIN number.

I'm super excited that the procedure is going faster than expected.

However the production factory for all 3seris now is in Mexico, i don't know how long it will take to arrive in Europe.

Does anyone have any experience to share?
It is my first BMW and i'm super excited about it!

Man that is great news (for you!) It again supports my hypothesis that delaers prioritize 'good client' with high margin vehicles.

To my knowledge the EU specd non-M G20 sedans are produced in Munchen (with Mexico as the plant for the US market).

Also to my knowledge all G21 tourings are built in Munchen for all markets.

But other insights welcome!
