Window Tint?

Will you be tinting your windows? If so, what percentage? Also, does it come with a factory tint?

My last car had 30% all round (not 35%) this time I am thinking 50% or no tint at all.

It's illegal to tint all windows where I live. We can only tint the rear windows. So I'm just gonna stick to regular windows because I don't like the look of different looking windows.

If it weren't illegal I'd probably tint my windows although I don't know what percentage.

I just did 50% on front and 35% at the back on my new M340. It looks great!

I always tint and do 35% all around. I always use a Llumar/Pinnacle One product.

45% ceramic all around minus the windshield.
Combined with the factory tint of 70-80 yields my state legal 35

7% all the way around here. Summer in the south is no fun without tint

3M color stable or Crystalline are my go to films.

Lots of over marketed and over hyped films out there. And some manufacturers do not stand behind their product. Be careful decoding what some call ceramic.

Finally, be sure to find an installer who uses a plotter and won't use cutting tools on your car. Get your job done in a closed garage where airborne debris is minimal.

Good luck.

I have 30% on my 340i and I might go the same on the M340i. 30-35% seems the best compromise in looks/keeping the sun out and staying out of trouble with the cops IMO .

Max allowed in NY is 70% which is BS and they recently introduced window tint checks in the yearly inspections which blows.

The G20 (M Sports) does not come with a tint sadly and I am in the same boat!

I'm thinking of doing 50% or above all around. Not a fan of the pitch dark tints :

I’m getting 50% ceramic installed all around next week, minus the windshield.
I may go back and get 90% installed there later.

My wife has 35% in her X3 and I think it’s slightly too dark.
It’s nice during the day, but driving at night I feel like it affects visibility. I couldn’t imagine actually living with something even darker.

But I’ll admit it makes the car look really good!

I did 5% in the back for now. I'm now sure if I will do the front windows. I tend to have them down most of the time. If I do I was thinking 20% in the front. Or I could just get 5% which is illegal here in California. They used Rayno Ceramic film on mine.

Because my car is black, I wanted to keep the tint a little lighter. Went 35% ceramic all around. It isn’t super dark and you are able to see in the car if it’s sunnt out, but it’s not too dark at night and keeps it cool inside.

Anybody familiar with xpel XR Plus tint? Seems to be a newer film but claims to outperform competition (llumar, suntek, pinnacle, huper). I've always used huper but if prices are comparable and performance is supposed to be better, I'd be willing to try it out. Just looking to see if anyone has experience with them.

I have tint on all of my vehicles. I have a medical exception to the state law due to light sensitivity from a TBI (and this year the state FINALLY pulled their head out of their ass and changed the law stating that family members can drive the car without penalty as well). I did not need a lot of light reduction so I only needed to go 50% on top of factory and so it was easy to find a film that both reduced light and reduced cabin heat in the summer.

As a side note, if you live in those places where it gets really hot and you are looking for a cooler cabin, darker does not necessarily mean cooler. One thing you want to look at in a film is total solar energy rejection.

I think you mean Xpel Prime XR Plus. It is good stuff. It has a TSER (Total Solar Energy Reduction) of up to 71% which is an indication of how well it will cool the interior.

As to how it compares to the others, you need to print off the spec sheets and do a careful apples to apples comparison. Be careful to be sure they are all measured to the same standard (ASTM, etc).
