2020M340ix Correct Tire size/inflation
Never realized that my 2020 M340ix came with the smaller front size tire on the rear wheels. Everything I have found including the manual from BMW shows the size should be Front: 225/40R19
Rear: 255/35R19. I have the front size on all 4 wheels. Yes, I'm an idiot for not noticing especially since the car has screeched around turns going half the speed my 2012 335is takes the same turns quietly. I chalked it off to AS tires vs Comp tires and that the 335is is twice the car of M340. Does anyone know of a valid reason why BMW delivered the car this way? Has anyone else had their car come like that? |

They deliver all G20s equipped with all season tires with the square setup. You have to get performance tires to get the staggered setup. Not that it will ever matter, but cars equipped with all seasons also get the lower 130 mph speed limiter v the 155 mph limiter on cars delivered with performance tires. They’ve always done it that way.

Thanks, I feel better. Would that mean using the lower tire pressure, 38 lb vs 42 lb in the rear tires. That is 38 lbs all the way around? That was actually what made me notice the size difference. The car was in for the 2 year check and I got it back with 38 lbs in the rear. I figured a pro wouldn't make a mistake like that and looked the tires over very carefully.
Other than cost do you know why they do it? |

Don’t think it has to do with cost.
If you bought your car off the lot, you just may not have been aware of the options when ordering. When you build the car online with the intention to custom order you’ll see several options for wheels, tires, square set up vs staggered. |

As stated, you get the AS tire package in the US, which is a square specification setup by design, not as a cost saver. US seems to favour the AS tire packages as the standard fit.
Whereas our UK market is into performance tires and therefore we have staggered sets as standard. In fact we can't get some of the AS tires the US users rate so highly, they are not imported over here. |

My 2021 M340i has the factory square AS tire setup, and tire pressures are listed as 38/42 on the door frame sticker and in the TPMS display in the dash.
I have Pirelli P7 run-flats and I’m not impressed with the ride. They are decent on the highway, and seem to handle larger potholes well, but very bouncy and rough over smaller bumps during local driving . I had both Continental and Bridgestones on my previous F30 and the ride was much smoother. |

Many try to get by on their summer tyres. When xDrive came along in the Fxx series sedans and wagons, there was a lot of ignorance, the idea 4x4 type vehicles could run on summer tyres without any penalty. Many a driver has learned the hard way. Tyres like the Michelin Cross Climate is changing perception and tyre choice. But for many in the UK, it's an entirely new concept to have an All Season tyre on a BMW. BMW UK don't offer All Season options. |
