Had one as a loaner; it's a nice car.

I'm to extreme; if I did not have my F80
And I was getting one of the new 3 series I'd get a 330i loaded.

I'm either all in M3 or super compliant peppy clean 330i with some super quiet touring all-season tires!

The feeling sound and power of an all in M3 is hard to describe. My brother says the handling defies the law as of physics. On the gas off camber and feeling planted!!!
Nice reply I had the 330l as loaner myself, just rather vanilla for me, also felt larger. Actually thinking about grabbing an M4 before the end of production, followed by an outside chance of an M2 Comp. Just because of the smaller size. On the other hand...Sometimes "Quiet" is not a bad thing.

He probably never drove a 911

The current M4 is a real winner with the standard upgrades. If only they flared the front and rear like the M3

12.3 @ 111mph.

Yes, it's fast out of the box due to X-drive, but the top end pulling power is not comparable. Nonetheless, the performance of the G20 M340i is impressive for a mainstream sedan.

Assume you're referring to the fact a stock F80/2 M3/4 is more like 12 flat or 12.1 at 119-120 mph trap speed?

Yes, F8X has a similar ET but a greater trap speed @ 117-120mph (with DCT).

G20 is best in class.
That is why, if the publication is not US-based, it will definitely win any comparison test.

They need to up the horsepower on the 540i to match this car like they did with the m550

If only a great 1/4 mile would be a reason to buy a car. We would all by Subaru STI and Tesla

I've seen several F80 time slips
11.6 @ 119 mph

Again; M340 is a great car

540 is a sofa on wheels; my co-worker took me for a ride in her car.

Very luxurious car👍🏾

I would love that but unlikely, seems m lite has to be the top performance non M of the series...

Though had M340 been out when I was shopping I would probably gone for this instead of my 540...

I have one this weekend, I had it airborne..

The M340i with Pilot 4S tires skates around turns..

My only complaint is it feels huge, it can hold its own but the larger body takes some getting use to.

However, I bet money you can take more than 90% of the cars on the road and not just in a strait line but around corners also.. This car can boogie

No point in buying the old M3 if you can get the same numbers with x drive. Also just posted is the KBB comparo with the G70, I want to know what the nuremburg lap times are for the G70 to see a true comparison, I bet this car is faster, jutifying the $6k price difference when comparing starting price of 3.3t to starting price of M340i.

The 540 handled pretty well at the UDE I was surprised felt like a smaller car than it was even with 4 passengers adding weight. Could be that it was the M Sport model which may have helped, they had us test drive both S drive and X drive.

you mean 335hp ? I'm not aware of any bump in power, just more torque for the newer B58 engine (and start from 2020 already, before LCI)?

They are worlds different in terms of feel and top end pull. Don't let that G20 time fool you.

The f80 looks 10 times better. F80 is a sports car, the M340i is a luxury car with some sporting attributes. Very different type of cars targeting different type of customers. The f80 is not for everyone, whereas m340i is designed more for mass appeal. A comparison of the two is truly like comparing apples and oranges and the existence of an m340i doesn't make an m3 or m4 purposeless.

It does indeed.

I can't imagine for one second, that the M340i - as competent as it might be - gets anywhere close to the driving dynamics and excitement of the F80.
