I'm in the US and received my first OTA update notification today. Currently on 11/2019 and updating to 11/2019.70. Will let you know how it goes once I push to car.

I completed the update last night and everything went smooth. Downloaded the app through the app and uploaded to car. Upload to car took about 10 minutes and then another 20 minutes to install the update. So far all good.

Are you forced to update? I am in NA and don't want to update.

Don't think you are forced to update. It stated the update was only available till 13 July. Not sure what happens after that.

At midnight on 7/14, if you still haven't updated, your tires will immediately fall off and the vehicle will self-sabotage its transmission with small pieces of metal road debris.

Remote Software Update no option to update.

I've got same issues as most of you.

the update is downloaded to the car; 2 green flags in the BMW connected App. But no way I can enter the final fase.

I contacted BMW Customer Service. Their first reaction was to drive a 100 Km and then park the Car. In The Netherlands 100 km is a huge distance. An now with COVID-19 I'm working from home. So minimal driving for me.
But anyway I drove 73 km and several shorter trips over 250 km in tree weeks.

I also suggested to use an external battery charger, but the where advising me to my BMW dealer to get an appropiate charger.

Has anyone got tips on which type of charger you should use. I'll have to buy one, and don't want to blow up the battery or electronics.

It's true what BMW say! I happened to travel 100km and when I parked the park a message saying the update was ready to install appeared and after 15-20min I was updated to 11.2019/70. I had the same problem with you for 10 days because my daily commute was 2 trips of 12km each. Probably the battery was charged enough to begin the sw installation.

I had the same issue until I charged the battery using this charger:

https://www.ctek.com/uk/products/car/mxs-5-0-uk

It is quite sophisticated and has a dedicated mode for AGM batteries.

A friend happened to have a CTEK MXS 5.0 battery charger. This is a modern charger with support for AGM type of batteries.
After 4 hours of changing the batterie was full and the start installation appeared on the iDrive system.

Probably due to COVID 19 I drive 10% of my normal distance, and mostly short distances to the supermarket.
This is not good for maintaining a proper battery level.

Success at last!

Until yesterday my 3-series was still refusing to continue with the update - everytime I checked it said that I would be notified when I could perform the update after having successfully uploaded it many weeks ago.

Yesterday was the first chance I had to go for a long drive (about 200km).

At a stop about halfway along the route, I noticed a message appear on the screen as I turned off the engine indicating that the update could be installed.
I waited until I returned home and luckily the message still appeared when I switched off the engine. I pressed the button to update and left the car locked overnight.

This morning the update appears to have installed. It had also disappeared as an option from the Connected app (no notification that there was an update available and that it was uploaded).
So - it has now finally updated!

So - it seems either that you have to drive 100+km (presumably to fully charge the battery, or for some other strange reason best known to BMW) or use a special battery charger to ensure that it reaches the right level (as Yossi123 suggested previously) - using a "normal" battery charger as I tried (and which indicated that the battery was fully charged) does not seem to be enough.

I think I might invest in a better battery charger.

Can anybody confirm if the CTEK MXS5.0 is the same as the BMW approved battery charger? They seem alike aside from the BMW branding?

I have driven around 170km over the weekend and that was barely enough just to get the ASS to work only for the next day.. This way I guess I will never get the update to start installing.
Only option is the battery conditioner?
If I engage the ECO mode will the battery charge more or less or no change?

I think this article says enough.
https://www.bmwblog.com/2016/01/28/b...ttery-charger/

I’ve borrowed an CTEK MXS 5.0 From a friend. I fully charged my G20 320i within 4 hours with this battery charger. After a full charge the install option was activated. Update took about 20 minutes.

This charger has a special mode for AGM type of battery which is installed.
The battery is in the rear under the cover, and has a capacity of 105A.

Important: The charging should be done from the front, in the engine compartment. There you’ll find two hookup points for the charger. Please read the BMW manual.
Wait until the battery is fully charged, unhook the charger first, shut the hood. Then go inside the car to start the iDrive system.

due to corona I drive less, this drains the battery. Modern cars are packed with electronics, which are active all the time.

I used a CTEK MXS 5.0 Charger on my 330i and charged my vehicle for 15 hours but the charger only got to stage 4 during this time. The downloaded Software Update will still not complete!

I have only selected normal charging mode (Car and AGM LEDs lit). Should I select ‘reconditioning’ mode as well?

Should I leave the charger to complete its 7 stage cycle or could it be faulty because it hasn’t completed yet after 15 hours?

I would plug it again and leave it to complete all stages. It might be that your battery was really low.

Do you have GSM coverage where your car is parked? GSM is required, so I guess it won't work in underground garage etc.

Well, I have a US-spec car in Europe... I don't think I'll be getting the OTA update.

Most of Connected Drive works - but when I log into the website it specifically says Remote Software Upgrade, while I am subscribed to it, is not available for my vehicle.

The app says No Upgrade Available and the car searches for upgrades but says nothing available.

My car is an 04/2019 build with 03/2020.58 which I assume the dealer did before I took delivery.

Thanks for the tip.

Plugged it in for the rest of the day and it eventually got to stage 7.

Then I was finally able to complete OTA Update 11/2019.70. The first one ever! Now BMW needs to get them rolling out with the very latest version.

Charging worked for me.

I know it's an old thread, but I came across it as I had the same problem last week, i.e. I'd managed to download the new software to my phone and then transfer it to the car, but it never seemed ready to install it. I don't use my car very often and whilst there's no problem starting it most of the time, I thought the battery may be low. I charged it overnight (bog standard battery charger >30 years old) and when I switched the car on this morning, it immediately indicated that I could start to apply the software update.
First thing to try if you're having this issue.

I’ve done numerous longer drives and still haven’t got it to install. Haven’t got a battery charger either - sadly.

Might be time to invest in one. This seems to be the one favoured in this forum.

https://smartercharger.com/products/ctek-mxs-5-0

I can vouch for it as well!
