Blame range. You could easily put other tyres on it.

Because they really need to pull of the sales with this car if they price it under the model s, and still manage to pull of a good profit on the car then they will sell like melting ice cream in the sunshine.

And also i was referring to the different battery packages that might come with the choices of this car, so maybe one will start at 50k and the top of the line will be around 72-78k if that wasn't clear enough.

Again Tesla has an enormous leap on BMW when it comes to EVs so they really have to pull out some of that wonderful Bavarian fairy dust.

Last time i checked Tesla was something like 6-7 years ahead of the competition in the EV department.

No I think ev top speed is a function of gearing. They don't have a transmission so the one gear maxes out via the motor rpm.

I'm sure they will up the top speed with a performance version.

BMW probably picked a compliant tire for comfort more than range.

Realistically though, how often does anyone exceed 120mph on the road? Yes it may make you less of a man in the pub, but I’m struggling to remember the last time I drove my M4CS at 120mph lol

There is always room for variance.

I'm surprised BMW didn't set the top speed @ 130 for the base i4.

I guess you are about 15 years behind
M340i starts from $60K.
The main competition whicih is Tesla Model S, STARTS from $75K and goes up to $100K+
And you expect them to sell their high-end electric car for the same amount as base 3 series? No way.

This car will basically be a fully electric 4 series, and for many people, it will be even more desirable than M4. So considering the competition and the market, Tesla Model S price range would be fair.

And there is no such thing as BMW markup. That's 'industry' markup. BMW doesn't push higher markup than the others.

The new hideous grills say "Look at me; I am shouting". That is not tasteful and not what I would expect from a luxury car manufacturer.

I hope that they fire the design director and abandon these grills but I don't see that coming.

BMW's world is changing rapidly.

BMW has to offer better values then ever before or they will continue to lose sales to Tesla.

The Model 3 is the main competitor to the 3/4-series, as its a compact sedan and starting price is close to that of a base 3er. The Model S is a large mid-size sedan, definitely not the main competitor.

“The BMW Concept i4 brings electrification to the core of the BMW brand,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. “The design is dynamic, clean and elegant. In short: a perfect BMW that happens to be zero emission.”

He then went to on to say that he tried his hardest to make it look ugly.

Surprised at the architecture's silhouette. If that's accurate it's a very cab-rearward design, similar to traditional FR BMW's, and that ought to be pretty decent dynamically if all the heavy bits are low and rearward. I think we're going to be pleasantly surprised by how good this is

This.

If you are trying to do 120+ on a public road with this car, your license should probably be shredded.

i4 won’t compete with the Model 3, the BMW will be more expensive in all configurations.
