As I was there seeing the car I had ordered with that horrid analog display, there were some engineers from BMW, they told me that here in Brazil only the 330e is coming with this middle setup. So the G20 Live Cockpit Plus (the real hybrid one, and not the analog crap + navi) requires ACC or HUD or for it to be a hybrid. |

How do you configure (USA) with the cockpit pro on a 340i xdrive? Standard already? Part of a package?
It would be nice to have various styles to choose from within a digital dash. |

Hi all,
Just wanted to give my perspective from someone who has a 330i with about 500 miles now. I agonized over this before I bought my car. After reading a lot of posts on here from the old-school purists, I had convinced myself that nothing would do except the traditional analog gauges. After all, my wife drives a Q7 with analog gauges and the digital dashes annoyed me. Looking and using are two different things. After using the Digital Cockpit for the last couple of weeks, I wouldn't go back. I've gotten used to the reverse-tach. It takes some adjustment, but it's fine. Trust me. The advantages include the larger screen, Nav, more information, and other customizations that make it all worth it. I don't miss the analog gauges at all now. |

Me too.
I was worried that I'll miss traditional orange dials, that reverse is not natural etc. Also was worried about Sun reflections, black level during the night etc. And now, 4.200 km after I got the car, it's just great for everyday use. Don't miss analogue at all. |

It happens sometimes that angle is exactly right and then you get the reflection. But that happens so rarely, that I completely forgot about it as it's not a concern. I usually notice these things immediately and they bug me a lot, but in this case it's very rare, somehow looks like car is designed in a way that it's hard for sun rays to get directly to the screen most of the time. So I believe you can sleep peacefully.

Got my 330i today, can confirm ACC & Live Cockpit Plus gives you the MID tier instrument cluster. The gauges are analog-like in a Comfort mode and digital (left speed, right current gear) in a Sport mode. Even some Carplay apps (Spotify) are controllable through instrument cluster. However the Live Cockpit Plus iDrive screen could be bigger.

If you notice on the non-M/M-Lite models it is the traditional BMW font. |

Didn't like the full digital dash on the Professional system the first time I saw it, but I didn't want to dismiss it before I get to use it. Unfortunately, after trying it out on the road, my opinion is even stronger. It doesn't work for me, and I think it's a step backwards. Analog dials with a center anchor are just far more readable. The needle and it's movement contains an inherent information about the current value, and even more important, it contains the information about how that value is changing. As a Software professional with years of experience in User Interfaces and UX, I see that BMW had good intentions with the digital dash, and it partially succeeded. Unfortunately, for me the biggest problems are information overload and the lack of immediate readability. Last edited by Calamari; 07-05-2019 at 06:54 AM.. |

I like the updated ///M2 cluster. That was a really nice compromise. I'm not feeling the instrument cluster in the new 3, but I'm hoping the new ///M3/4 cluster polishes it up a bit.
