Scratched passenger rear door window & B pillar
Went out yesterday morning to my M340i and noticed a bird had done the biggest shit I've ever seen on the rear passenger window and B pillar which had hardened overnight. Have no access to a jet spray at home so decided to soak it with a copius amount quick detailer and used a microfibre to try and wipe it off, which in hindsight was a mistake as there must've been grit/stones within the bird shit and I've been left with a scratched B pillar (why do they make them piano black plastic
![]() I can either get the B pillar attacked with a rotary machine and compound I guess or just buy a new one from BMW like the one below so not too devastated. However, I'm unsure what to do about the rear door window...it's left a couple of fairly big scratches I can feel when I run my finger over it but I can't work out if it's because the glass is tinted and perhaps this is what has been damaged or the glass itself is scratched. Is the OEM glass with privacy glass a film tint or is coloured glass (sorry if this is a stupid question!). https://www.sytnerstevenagebmwparts....437465139.html Anyone know whether factor tinted glass is just a film? Also if it isn't how much would a new window be? Going to call BMW tomorrow to find out and how much labour will be but interested if anyone has had similar happen to them. |

I've had good results with the CarPro Ceriglass kit, even doing it by hand.
It's hard work but probably better results with a DA polisher. Would obviously also depend how deep the scratches in the glass are. Fairly certain the factory glass is tinted during production and not a film. |

That is why factory tinted glass looks far better than aftermarket film tints as the glass itself is tinted which avoids the unsightly lines/ slight bubbling around heater elements and the window logo in the bottom corner. |

I have scratches on my windscreen from tiny little stones that were blown off a roof in high winds onto the windscreen, and then as I didn't know the stones were there, the wipers blades dragged the stones over the arc of the wiper blades. The scratches don't look to be that bad, hopefully I can buff them out. Would prefer to use a dual action polisher, but it's not a tool I own. Thanks! |
