Correct placement for M340i M emblem

Hello Forum,

I got a pair of M emblems 51148090642 for my 2020 M340i. By any chance, one of European members know the correct dimensions for placement?

I ordered them from ECS Tuning in case you want to do the same for your North American M340i.

Thanks,

Jose

I've always wondered, why don't North American M sport model cars have the side emblems? The rest of the world has them!

It's actually only the US. Canada even gets the side M markers.

These are templates I made when removing mine for my PPF, in the event I wanted to install them again, measurements are in inches. Not sure if these will help you or not.

Such a peculiar thing to find cheesy when, you know, they're the country that brought the world the concept of pimping one's rides

Well I should say Americans who buy new BMWs. The demographic doesn't overlap a whole lot with the pimp my ride crowd.

It's a big, diverse country!

Sorry to necro-bump, but I'm hoping this info will help anyone coming across this thread in the future.

It's also 6cm from the fender crease to the bottom of the emblem (as seen here), and IMHO you should follow the line of the crease (i.e. level the emblem with the slope of that fender crease, not the ground), or it will look (slightly) crooked whenever the car + observer are on anything other than perfectly flat ground. Ask me how i know.

In other words DO NOT DO what is in the attached photo (where the emblem is set with a level / plumb bob). The top of that piece of paper *should* have been aligned with the crease. It's a small difference in angle over such a small distance, but once you see it it's hard to unsee. I ended up having to remove + re-do these emblems after they annoyed me enough.

Lol, I faced the same dilemma when installing my decals. I marked a line with a level prior to permanent installation and temporary secured the decals in alignment with the line, took a step back and was not happy with the results. I ended following the body line of the fender which was much better in the end.

Lol, I did the same w/ temporary tape. Took a step back in my (flat) garage and thought it looked good level w.r.t. ground. Turns out your brain can make sense of the logic when the car is level. However whenever the car is on an incline it looked totally crooked because my eye wa immediately drawn to that crease for a reference instead. Lesson learned!

Did you buy it used? All Canadian cars come with them from new.

Yes it was used. BMW Markham shop foreman stated to me today that some of them did not come with it. Perhaps because mine is a 2020.

Don't know about Canada but in Europe we have options in the order sheet to delete the M-badges (as I did).

Perhaps the previous owner chose to do that

Garage List
I'm in Delaware USA and my 2021 M340i came with small chrome tiny ones but I'm glad it did I actually like the look. I actually just bought the rear m340i emblems in Glossy black and side fender emblems in black which are a tad bigger than the ones I have on there now. I'm going to take painters tape and outline the bottom of the emblem to place the new one and save me the headache of second guessing myself. If the car is at a downward angle, they look crooked lol but when parked Stright they look fine. so weird.... must be my eyes lol.
