G20 M Sport Suspension
Hi
New to the forum and just looking for a bit of advice. I'm about to order the G20 320d m sport but i have read a few reviews where they state the m sport suspension gives a really harsh ride. Granted the test cars were on upgraded 19" wheels The car would be on standard 18" wheels but I don't have the option to go for the adaptive suspension. I currently drive a 2016 C220 with AMG line suspension which I think is fine and I was wondering how the two compare. Previously I drove 2006 3 series m sport, I am assuming the ride quality would have improved since then? I not looking for a pure luxury but at the same time don't want to be driving a bone shaker. If anyone can share there experience it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance |

Best to have a test drive. I don't think it'll be any stiffer than the Merc though. Everyone is different so what's too firm for some will be fine for others.

Can't quite remember if the 18's on a 3 were as overall comfortable as the Merc but I can say for sure imo the Merc is in no way as engaging to drive, that was the exact reason why a relative who had one ,Burmester and all the tech got rid of his for an S3...much to his Mrs' chagrin |

I have the 330xdrive M Sport plus with 20" M Performance wheels, tbh I have yet to use the adaptive suspension. Just changed from a 430 xdrive with 19" wheels and the 3 series is a much smoother ride.

Do you mean you haven't yet tried/used the Adaptive mode? |

Yes that's what I meant, been a long day yesterday.
Still trying to get used to the car and compare with my previous 4 series. |

Sapphire black and the wheels are more of a mat black.
Couldn't grumble as a got a great deal on a dealer spec'd car, plus most I've seen as standard come with the normal double spoke wheels. It was either this or hang off for the new 4 series. |

I've tried to find a definitive answer, but can someone can explain the difference between the Adaptive suspension on the 330e and the regular models? I believe the 330e is different due to the significant weight difference to the other, non-Hybrid models?

Hi I’m new to this group, I bought a new 320i touring in September last year, I wasn’t in for a new one but my dealer couldn’t find a used one anywhere so after 3 months came up with a brilliant deal a new 3201i M sport with 18” wheels, looked great everything I asked for for the price of a second hand one! Test drove it sadly only on smooth roads, bought the car.
On rough roads which are plentiful in my area it’s really harsh so I changed tyres to non run flat, no difference I’m now looking to change all the suspension springs and struts has anyone on here done that? I need the OEM numbers for the parts fitted to the standar 320i any ideas where I might be able find them please. |

Last year I test drove G21 320i with 19s on run flats and another with 18s on non run flats. I preferred the ride of the latter due to the smaller and more compliant tyres. So that is what I ordered.
I would prefer slightly softer ride but it's still great to drive. |

The ride in mine is back breaking... you can feel every ripple in the road on 18" wheel and standard M-Sport suspension... another reason the car is going soon..
If you do want one get one with adaptive, much better ride in al the loan cars I have had .. Off back to a Skoda Kodiaq vRS soon.. 20 years plus with VW Group, 18 months with BMW and I am off back again, want a car with a working DAB radio that dealers say there is nothing wrong even though it loses signal for 5 mins a time and all DAB stations... .. BMW HQ useless no customer service skills at all.. MUCH better quality of service from Skoda.. Last edited by stuarttunstall; 02-23-2023 at 02:07 AM.. |

Shame to hear that you guys are having suspension issues. This above contrasts directly with my own experience. Mine is a 320i T MSPort on 19" Goodyear RFTs (coincidentally also bought new as better deal than used).
I find the ride comfortable. Sure, its no magic carpet, but then the 3 series is not that kind of setup so would be defeatist to expect it. Certainly not "back-breaking", more like taut and responsive. Its as smooth as my old 530i E39 SE Touring and miles better than our 325i E91 SE Touring. Plus, it handles really well. When I was testing G21s I found the ride and noise on 18" wheels much better than 19". Would have preferred that setup but my car came as a pre-configured deal so had to take the (lovely looking) 19" wheels. Falcoray I think it would be crazy expensive to replace the whole suspension, not to mention you'd end up with a "Frankenstein car". What would you replace it with, the setup from an SE version? You can find all the part numbers on RealOEM: https://www.realoem.com/ |

My 330i M-Sport came with 18" non-RFT as standard and it's fine, even on the atrocious roads in Coventry.

M Sport to SE is not unheard of and it's been an option to delete M Sport suspension on many models. xDrive F3X M Sport models got SE suspension as standard. |

But you're right, its a huge market even on new cars, especially in the performance world. Don't know what I was thinking, apologies! |
