Just bought a G23 M440i - couple of questions
Hi, I have been away from the BMW fold for a couple of years but just bought a 72 plate M440i convertible for what seems an OK price considering it's the start of summer ! Black sapphire exterior (hides the front grille pretty well) and oyster interior. Will post pics when it arrives for anyone interested.
Couple of questions: - mine doesn't include comfort pack, so want to source a wind deflector. Dealer price for these is crazy, anyone bought a decent non-genuine one or know of a s/h genuine one available at sensible money ? - any experience/recommendations re non-RFT tyres ? Ideally want to keep the 792M rims and just change the tyres. More interested in ride comfort than on-the-limit handling, given it's the convertible. Thanks for any help |

I've got a coupe so can't help you with the first of your queries, as for the second I chose to stick with runflats and have done for many years now...personal choice and not intended to invoke a barrage of comments from the 'non runflat brigade' on here! All I would say from my own personal experience is that the ride quality of runflat tyres has improved significantly over the past 15 years or so. My recent experience has been with ...... ....Bridgestone Potenza and Bridgestone Turanza......OK....but ride can be harsh on anything other than smooth tarmac (yeah I know a rarity on this potholed island!). On the plus side the sidewalls are really robust and can shrug off pothole/kerb impacts better than other makes. Goodyear Eagle F1s (between 2013 and 2017 so older generation tyres to current versions which are said to be much more improved). Ride quality the best I've experienced on runflats over all the years ....but...sidewalls as soft as cream cheese and very susceptible to damage from potholes/kerbs. Newer versions are supposed to be better. Pirelli P Zero PZ4s on my current car and with 8500miles on them now.Ride quality more towards the Goodyears and robustness of the sidewalls more towards the Bridgestones so thus far they appear to be a best compromise. The wear rate is good, although I don't drive the car particularly hard anyway, and the wear pattern doesn't appear to be unusual. Hope this helps! |

I’ve got a 430d convertible on 19” run flats & without adaptive suspension, only done a few hundred miles so far but the ride seems ok. Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres on the car.
There was somebody offering a wind deflector in the classifieds a few weeks ago |

Done about 20 miles in it today. Factory GY Eagle F1 RFTs, running at about 40psi. Was actually pleasantly surprised at the ride quality. Still thumps hard in a proper sharp pothole edge but otherwise pretty well behaved. Might just live with them. It's not a car I'm ever going to push to its limits.

It certainly shifts. I had an M240i convertible pre-covid, which was RWD and a bit less powerful, but lighter. It was maybe fractionally quicker where traction wasn't an issue, but traction often WAS an issue. Mostly I'm just flooring this from 10-60mph with the top down to hear the exhaust. Really economical when cruising. Delivery driver got 42mpg indicated on a 200 mile motorway drive at 70-75mph. |

That's pretty good. I nearly always drive in Sport and I've averaged 33.4mpg over 14k miles, about 40% m/way 40% rural and 20% urban. |

Got an Aperta aftermarket wind deflector secondhand off ebay for £85. Very pleased with it. Does the job just fine. Takes about 10 seconds longer to fit than the genuine one BUT also less likely to trap your fingers as no 2nd fold. Doesn't look quite as good close up but 99% of people won't know or care whether it's OEM or not.
Couple of pictures: - car after the only clean it will probably get this summer (hosepipe ban likely to last all year down here...); - the Aperta deflector (i) in place and (ii) in the boot (photo to show that it just fits diagonally, would normally put it in the bag as well) Last edited by morellomax; 06-09-2023 at 10:37 AM.. |
