G26 Mod Questions
Hi guys. Very new to the world of car mods. I got my 2022 BMW M440xi GC about 1.5 years ago and I’m absolutely in love. Taking every excuse I can get to drive my car. I never knew getting groceries could be so much fun. It’s my first BMW, and I had no idea what gem I stumbled on with this B58 engine when I bought the car. I’ve taken it to the track once and I’m hooked.
I just added a JB4 tuner (running MAP 2 on 93 octane) and planning to add an Active Autowerke high flow catted downpipe as well as a MAD cold air intake (for sound). It will also remain my daily driver for the foreseeable future so I’m not trying to go overboard with anything (at least for now). I know that a big bang for my buck would be to go down the route of running an E30 mix, but was looking for some other bolt on mods before messing w flex fuel options. Some online videos suggested a replacement HPFP? Also, if I choose to add an exhaust I was looking at the Dinan axle-back exhaust. Would I regret not running a cat-back exhaust? Sorry if some of these questions are irritatingly basic; I’m not even a month into learning about DIY car mods. |

There is no need for an upgraded fuel pump with your current mods.
a full catback with a catted downpipe will deliver a deeper and more complete sound in my opinion

There's nothing between the rear axle/muffler and the downpipe on our US spec cars so running the Dinan axle back wouldn't be any different than running a full catback.
I was gonna say that the piping diameter might be different between the axle back and a catback but from what I've seen most catbacks bolt directly to the stock downpipe without a reducer so there really shouldn't be a difference between running a Dinan axleback and a catback other than the muffler tech. |

Thanks guys! In general is one style more difficult to install? Intuitively it seems like axle back would be more cutting rather than cat-back just bolting onto the DP

I'd imagine as long as you can get clean cuts on the stock exhaust, the axle back would be simpler to install cause there's less piping to deal with. My AWE catback took about three hours to install with the car on jackstands and me working on the floor with an impact wrench and a couple hand tools. There were so many damn pieces that didn't feel like they fit right at first but in the end fit up perfectly. I'd do it again but it would be so much easier and less painful on a lift. |

I'm also in a similar boat, picked up a 22' M440i G26 a few months ago and have been looking to make a few changes to it. Been considering an axel-back swap as well, and it really looks like the only options (at least for the G26's) are the Dinan, Active Autowerke, or MPE.
Personally, was thinking of going with the Dinan mostly due to the detail in the instruction they provided and it seems like consensus from this forum is that it produces the best sound. As far as the cat-backs go, it does seem like we're a bit limited due to it being the G26 spec. I know the AWE options definitely don't work with the G26, and it looks like the Valvetronic might fit (will probably end up reaching out to someone whenever it gets closer to my time to get one). I've more-or-less resigned myself to the fact that I'm gonna need to do some cutting and go with an axel-back lol. |
