I would agree that Germany has a comparative advantage when it comes to machine building.

The thrill of cheap labour is enticing though.

All that being said I am sure the product will be very similar, at least in time. But to me certain purchases, like a car, are based on more factors. I like my Italian food from Italy, and my German cars from Germany. I like that regions have identities that they are known for, and part of paying that premium in purchase price is folded into that. I'm not saying it would stop me from purchasing the next M3 if I fall in love with it, but doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.
Oh I’m not at all worried about the quality of cars produced there. I was more commenting in general about the old and new nafta.

It's not just about reduced cost, it's time to market. Having a plant in North America means we can get our vehicles much faster from the time they're ordered. There will be growing pains with any new plant, but this is good for our supply.

I don't blame them for it but it is just about reduced costs. The billion plus spent is considered an investment which will earn them much more than the amount spent.

Plant Spartanburg has known quality issues for years. Multiple BMW AG employees have told me in Germany that all German market SUV's have an other inspection at Plant Dingolfing prior to shipment to local dealership. I wouldn't buy a M Mexican manufacturered.
That's probably just post-port inspection. EU-assembled vehicles have the same kind of quality inspections when they arrive at port in the USA.

The snobbery with final assembly is real in this thread. My old E90 328i assembled in South Africa was reliable and never had quality issues.

That being said, I do think BMW should continue to offer European delivery as an experience if a customer wants to do that for a model that's assembled in the EU.

You are correct, it is all about design & quality of the parts. I believe being worried about were they are assembled is called bigotry and discrimination.

Not really. I appreciate Mexico for Mexican things, and Germany for German things. True with globalism, many parts are shared but I still appreciate a German-engineered and German built vehicle more-so than a German-engineered and somewhere else built vehicle. Even if it is mostly psychological. Likewise, there are wonderful Italian restaurants across the US, but to me (and many others), having an authentic Italian meal in Italy is hands down better, even if you could prove scientifically that it is the same. It's not discrimination at all as we appreciate all cultures for what they are known for. Hence why people like doing European delivery - to experience those cultures. Doesn't mean they don't like others. Look, you may not care where your car is built and that is fine for you but throwing out "discrimination" is just silly.

This is what I was wondering - does the mean a significant reduction in European Delivery options?....

I wasn't cheering I was merely stating fact. An inevitable fact: companies will always chose profit over national interests.

Oh just drop it. Keep you SJW stuff to yourself. "Discrimination and bigotry" - that's not sensational at all, ok.

I hope you realize, majority of BMW buyers don't have a clue where their car is assembled right? Only the informed who pay attention to stuff like this and follow BMW News would know.
