Does anyone know what the Production Date means on VIN decoder websites vs the Build Date or Build Week? My M340i has a required/confirmed build week of 03/2020 (i.e. 3rd week of January 2020) and a estimated build date of 17 January 2020 - per the internal BMW order system as at today (car is status 150 since 16 Dec which means in production, and the VIN was allocated already). Car was ordered and an existing build slot reconfigured in early December.
However, on all VIN decoder websites, I am getting a 'Production Date' of 28 December 2019. Also seems weird as the VIN comes back with the right car model/colour/interior combo but doesn't list many parts (maybe only a 1/4 present of what comes up for a delivered car). Which one do we go off for when the car was built? And is the BMW system / VIN decode accurate? Asking because there's a big difference in Australia for a 2019 or a 2020 built car is from a resale perspective. (Forgetting local compliance dates etc which will be in 2020 when the car arrives). Anyone have an idea? BMW dealer says it's definitely a 2020 car and will reflect this as 01/20 (MM/YY) on the BMW stamp that placarded on the engine bay or door sill. I wonder whether the VIN prod date will update once the car finishes building - who knows! |
