First drive on the SottoZero3's in actual winter conditions and I'm extremely impressed. They're not foolproof, but the grip and control on ice and (light) snow is quite impressive. My first time on winter rubber, I wasn't sure what to expect. Wow, I'm a convert.

No issues getting around with RWD. Even small snowy/icy hills that appeared to be challenging for other cars and SUV's (all four wheels spinning) was not a problem for me.

Also very impressed at how quiet and composed the tires are on a very cold, 5-degree (F) morning.

Is everyone going with the staggered setup for the OEM option? I'm thinking thinner wheels are better for snow traction. Even with xDrive I'm not sure I want a 255 tire out back.

I have OEM staggered setup with 791M bi-colour wheels went with 19" Pirelli Sottozero 3 Non-Runflats.

We just had our first winter downfall yesterday and although not perfect, definitely helps with braking and accelerating. Still slips and slides, but better than All-seasons, drive with caution guys!

I can't tell if there is any difference in driving when downsizing to 18". Any feedback on these Pirelli Sottozero 3 tires compared to Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3 or Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4?

They are really great tires in any cold conditions. Usually you have to decide on dry/wet vs snow/ice but they excel at quite a wide range of conditions and are quiet and comfortable too. I think I like them better than the Michelin PA4 which I've had on 3 previous BMWs.

Here are the wheels I got.
I decided to change my order based on Transfer post (225 vs 235). The wheels I got are 8.5 and I think 225 would have been such a stretch, so I went with 235/40/19 (approximately 1.4% height delta vs the 225). Stuck with the Pilot PA4's though they were much harder to source in 235.

They are being mounted on this replica 791 rim:

Hi, so I have a G20 and I found a set of Pirelli Sottozero that are 245/50/r18, which were originally on an X3. I’m trying to figure out if they will fit? Or will it be too big for the G20?

I'd say too big. It's 6.44% bigger.

square or staggered setup?

I just installed my kit and I think it is FANTASTIC. Highly recommended for a performance OEM look. I bought via Tire Rack for a little under $2k pre-tax including TPMS. Installed without any issues, perfectly balanced, and tires seem to handle quite well even in today's dry 60F weather here. I live up a bunch of hills and drive in typical cold wet conditions with occasional snow and will also do some trips into the mountains. My car is an xDrive.

MSW (OZ) Type 73 wheels, 5x112
Centerbore 72.6(?) Hub center rings included for BMW 66.6, fits snug
19 x 8 ET30 square setup
Wheel bolts included look like a slightly larger cone seat than OEM bolts so I used them (although they're silver)
BMW center caps fit perfectly

Pirelli Sottozero 3 performance winter tires
Size 235/40/19 (1.2% taller than OEM square setup)

This setup compared to OEM by the numbers pushes toward outer fender by 2 mm in the front and sits at the fender the same in the rear although looks like a couple mm pushed out.

Bolt torque 103 ft-lb
Tire pressure 38 PSI all around

The pics...

Ordred them from my dealer. Took 4 business days to arrive. $2,4xx out the door, including dealer installation and storing the off-season tires. I've only driven on them for about 25 miles, but the ride quality is improved. Especially with temps in the 50's today, the P4S's were getting hard. Less crashy over bumps, and feels just as responsive in normal driving. Smooth and quiet at 75+. I'm very happy with the results.

Before (yesterday), 19" 792M with Summer Michelin PS4S...

Front...

After, 18" 796M with Pirelli Sottozero...

Front rotors don't look much different than with the 19's. Calipers are close but they're no tighter than with the 792M's.
This is awesome! Did you go with a square setup 225/45/18? or the staggered setup that is offered on BMW's site? Can't see the rear size.

Did you have to do anything to program it? or just perform a reset?

2020 BMW m340 xDrive

I don't intend on using the car much in the winter.

Front 225/40-19 - kumho wintercraft wp72
Rear 255/35-19 - kumho wintercraft wp72

Wheels Front FastWheels FC04 8.5" +35
Wheels Rear FastWheels FC04 9.5" +35

Aftermarket TPMS (Take note there is two version of TPMS for G20 depending on your production date. I found out the hard way)
The shop did 10 or 12 cars of the G20 model (mostly 2019), had no issue, with mine the shop had to re-install an updated version (gen2) of the aftermarket TPMS.

I was expecting to RUN into issue with TMPS, and i did (but its solved)

Staggered. Ordered via my dealer SA from BMW.

796M package;
225/45 on 7.5x18 front.
255/40 on 8.5x18 rear.

FWIW, Stock 792M setup is
225/40 on 8x19 front
255/35 on 8.5x19 rear.

Summer Setup: 20" 794M wheels with Pirelli P Zero PZ4 R-F tires in 225/35R-20 (front), 255/30R-20 (rear). The performance is really good on dry roads. With the Adaptive suspension, the ride is harsh in comfort mode and very harsh in sport modes.

Winter Setup: 19" 791M wheels with Pirelli Sottozero 3 R-F tires in 225/40R-19 (front), 255/35R-19 (rear).

I was immediately shocked by how much smoother the ride is. In sport modes, the car now rides noticeably smoother than my summer setup does in comfort mode! I know it's a combination of the higher profile tires and the softer rubber of the winter tires but I'm not sure which one is having the greatest effect. I haven't had a chance to test the performance of the winter tires yet but for now I'm enjoying the smooth ride.

Another OEM set up, just think these wheels suit the car so well! Huge thanks to Evan@Tischer and Jason@Tischer for this beautiful set up. I've shopped with them for over a decade and won't buy OEM parts anywhere else!

Here is my modest contribution.
Initially I did not expect to take a winter kit (no more money )
But finally I found these nice and not very expensive rims.

I might sound ridiculous, but with adaptive suspension I consider the grip and comfort on quite high level, the ride is not bumpy at all.
