I'm gonna be super salty if it changes how US models sound too. Especially for customers who ordered theirs (me) based off test driving experiences etc, just to receive a different sounding version of it upon arrival.

I'm thinking about getting myself the G21 M340i. One of the main reasons I want it is the sound of the exhaust. I was already a bit bummed during my test drive last year when I noticed the sound wasn't the same as of the US version. But now this software update might really hold be back on getting it.
I'm curious to see what your dealer is going to do to fix it, if it's even possible. |

I got my car back from the dealer but there is no solution.
They have made a case to bmw and they try to do some things but it doesn't work. BMW did some emission and fuel settings adjustments in the newer software (EU). There is no way back, they can not load my previous version back in the car. So (EU) people, do not update your car because you will lose the pops! I'm really pissed! I will contact BMW directly, but i don't think it will change something. |

This will most likely mean that on any EU M340i bought today, the burbles and pops are already gone. Would you please let us know if something changes? |

I can't imagine how frustrated I'd be if I bought a car because I loved the sounds of it, and then that being taken away by a software update for the remainder of the time I'll own the car. I almost would be driven to find a lawyer for this since you purchased the car for something which is then being taken away without your approval. |

Just had a ton of updates/recalls done last week. I still have pop and burbles and performance feels exactly the same. If somebody can tell me where to get the software version I will take a look and post it here.

that update with reduction of pops and bangs is only for european markets. you guys outside of europe are lucky.
bmw did that update silent without letting the costumer know about it. very rude! usa/canada/china/russia... you can relax! |

That's annoying, I was wondering where the pops went!
I had to update to 11/2019 to fix the Drive Recorder. Hopefully there is a solution to restore the sound (official or unofficial). |

For the people that also have lost the pops in EU, are you going to log a case at the dealership?
I have a case, but BMW told me that it's not possible to go back and that there is no solution. But if everyone will complain, hopefully they do something. I called someone from another dealership that i know well and he will try to find a solution. He also will log a complaint at customer services. |

[QUOTE=Frederik;25673153]Hello everyone,
Hi My M340i xDrive (European model - Denmark) had good deep burbles on downshifts when I got it back in October 2019, however in Europe the M340i never had the pops on upshift like in North America. But since the latest software upgrade in December 2019, the burbles have almost disappeared. My trusted BMW dealership tells me, that it is due to EU regulations to lower emissions and noise!? You also see the same thing happening to the good sounding Audi RS3 which is now almost quite as a bird. Also the new AMGs are suffering badly under the new regulations. Still love my M340i … but will consider getting it “ECU mapped” for more sound and horsepower when the warranty runs out 😊 Regards Søren from Denmark |

I have had some news yesterday from my dealer.
BMW Germany had some issues with the EU regulations... So they had to adjust the software for certain models (like the M340i). The pops are to loud and are not in line with the new emission and sound regulations. Every M340i that will come in the at the dealership, will have the update... It's difficult to understand that you had a new car that burble fine and now you lose everything... I'm searching for a solution, but the only thing that i can do is tune the car, but then i lose my warranty. So that's holding me down. |
