I’m currently looking and the M340i is at the top of the list. I’m also considering the MB AMG43, Genesis G70, Audi S5 and the Porsche Macan S. I kinda hate the people at the local MB dealership, hate the Hyundai tech in the G70, and worried I’ll grow tired of the Audi design which has been around awhile but it drives fine and pricing is better than the BMW. The Macan just seems fun but I haven’t driven it yet.

Back to the M340i. I like both Dravit Grey and Tanzanite Blue, both would be blacked out. Interior would be Cognac or Mocha, possibly Black with blue stitching but I’m really struggling with colors so would love to hear from any of you. Has anyone had colour transfer on the Cognac? I just saw every similar colour at the auto show turning blue from jeans... not good! In terms of the exterior I love the pics of seen of Dravit but haven’t seen it live. I normally find grey boring but I think I like it, but is it too Fast & Furious? Will I like it in 3 years? I had Carbon Black on an X3 and loved it, the tanzanite looks similar. Help!

I’m likely to lease 3 years, 20-24km/year, max msd’s. I’m seeing a lot of posts targeting 10% below msrp... anyone in Canada getting close to that? I’m also seeing 60% residual and every build I get is around 50%... is anyone aware on why there would be a 10% difference? It really makes the payment high.

I’ve been hitting up the local dealerships in Oakville but willing to go anywhere for the right deal (in Canada)

Feedback appreciated!

Doesn't matter how you're purchasing the vehicle, you still negotiate on the MSRP. You could negotiate the MSRP before the financing, but it honestly doesn't matter. I don't think it makes a difference in terms of discount if you mention you'll be financing the car or leasing.

That being said, there are different incentives based on which method you choose. Financing through BMWFS currently has a $2,500 incentive, while leasing has a $1,000 incentive. However, those incentives should not be used as part of the negotiation (as much as the dealer will want to bundle them in). Focus on just a straight discount off MSRP, and then add on additional savings with the incentives.

So a few things here:

1) It's interesting the Macan is a part of this conversation as that's an SUV.

2) I don't think the M340i comes in fast & furious colors (unless you opt for something off the individual palette like "java green" or "fire orange".

3) Dravit is an incredible color (I'm biased though ). It's subtle but also very unique and dynamic. It's not a loud color by any stretch, and to the untrained eye it's just another shade of gray. Until you see it next to an actual gray car and you realize how different it is.

4) I went with Mocha seats as I felt Cognac was a bit too loud for me. In regards to color transfer, I can't speak for cognac but my X5 has ivory seats. I've had it for nearly 5 months now and the seat still looks fine. If any color transfer does happen, it's nothing a good detail won't be able to fix.

The Macan is the odd addition to the group, but not that odd. It’s a drivers vehicle, looks good, seats 4, same price point.
So I assume you’re very happy with the Mocha/Dravit combination? That’s where I’m leaning as well.

Blacked out Dravit with Cognac for sure. If not cognac then Black. The mocha is very muted and shows little contrast on the interior.

Yeah I love the mocha/dravit combination. The mocha gives it a very sophisticated look. It's different without being distracting. Compliments it well.

I think cognac would also look great, but as I mentioned before it was just too loud for me.

It all just comes down to personal preference.

Man that looks good...which trim with the mocha? Oak or aluminum?

Is this your car? Any more pics? I'm struggling with whether to splurge on the Dravit or just stick with mineral grey

Thanks! Yes it is my car. That's the open pore fine wood oak grain trim.

I also like the open pore wood, it seems most people are choosing Oak vs Maple. Why? I like both but it seems that Mocha and Cognac both have elements of brown so it should work well with maple. Can people share some interior trim pics.

Thanks for all the responses so far!

My thinking is that Oak is close to black, and when you have two browns that are close but do not match (maple and mocha) it looks off. Like you tried to match but came up short. I think the contrast is better (mocha and oak or mocha and aluminum), but what do I know, I'm just playing with the build configurator...

With the colors? No I'm very happy with the colors I picked. With the spec, the one thing I would add next time is the adaptive suspension. I went with the regular M suspension and it can be a bit harsh at times.

The other thing I've thought about is potentially paying the huge premium to get merino leather instead of the vernasca. As merino isn't offered in the US for the 3 series, it would cost upwards of $5k to get that upgrade as a non-standard individual option.

De1ta is correct, at least in my case. The maple IMO saturates the brown tones too much. Different shades of brown typically don't go well together. Imagine a maroon colored car with brown leather seats.

You could potentially pull it off with the cognac interior since that is quite a bit lighter, but with mocha I think it would just look odd.

The oak on the other hand offers great contrast. It's very much a black trim with the open pore wood design clearly visible (in person).

Very good points (thanks Delta as well). I didn’t think of it as potentially contrasting. I wish I could see a few of these live but it’s hard to find and Dravit Grey in Toronto at all.

Check edmunds forums for today's MF.

As for March - nobody knows until at least a few days into March.
