Creaks, Rattles and Cracks - Fixed

My 330e (Feb 2020) is a great car, but has numerous creaks, rattles and cracking sounds. All very minor but they drive me mad. I think I 've fixed them all!

1. Rear parcelshelf. Fixed by a) taping up loose black tabs in the boot (trunk)underneath the centre rear seat belt b) Gummi Flege the water seals around the boot.

2. B Pillar creaks on both sides. Fixed by a) rear door, pulling back the rubber down the B pillar and spraying silicon lube into the gaps in the B pillar clips plastic surround. b) opening the front doors and adding felt tape to the B pillar trim on the side of the door.

3. Drivers door card cracking where I place my elbow when driving ( on the elbow rest). Fixed by: Unscrewed two screws and unclipped the door card (had to buy new clips from BMW) Glued foam between the door card and the metal frame of the door. Now solid as a rock!

4. Sunroof cracking whenever the body flexes. Fixed by a) buying BMW sunroof lube and following the Service Bulletin for the sun blind b) adjusting the wind deflector slightly by 2mm forwards c) liberal gummi flege around sunroof seals and d) removing the sun visor light and inserting a lot of foam to stop any flexing making a noise.

5. Centre dome light creaking. Fixed by removing the microphone grill, removing two screws and unclipping the unit, adding felt tape everywhere and also adding thick foam behind. Replaced unit and now solid!

6. Rear doors creaking. Fixed by inserting felt tape into the gap in the corner by the B pillar between the door trim and the door card.

None of these 'fixes' are visible' and I've spent about £20 on BMW clips, adhesive felt and lubricants (silicon, gummi flege) but much better than the dealer having a go and after 3 days telling me there is nothing wrong!

I hate the center dome light thing, what kind of foam did you get?

B-pillar creak/pop drives me crazy. I am noticing more like pops when the car goes over rough roads. Can you share some images of the location where you applied the felt tape and lube. I tried the same on door side. However need to try the silicone lube.

For the B pillars, open the back door and pull back the vertical rubber seal. Behind is where the plastic shadow trim clips on. I sprayed liberal silicone spray into the gaps and also pushed in thin slivers of felt rape. will post photos in the light.

For the foam over the done light, I used High density foam which was used for some large electronics packaging.

Hope this helps. Trouble with my 330e is that jts so quiet.

This all good advice.

I've done similar things in my car.

I'm going to try the tape on the black tabs in the boot. Thank you!

B Pillar creak 'fix'

Here are the pictures of the B pillar 'fix' - same on both sides. Worked for me! Spray silicon lube into those small rectangular holes and if you can,, pack in some felt tape also where the door card meets the b pillar trim. In the first picture, inserted felt in the 'J' shape where the B pillar vertical trim meets the door card..

Thank you for the pictures, really helps. Will try it out and see if this fixes it. Also do you have a suggestion for a particular silicon lube?

I sprayed lubricant along the black shadow trim rectangle cutouts. Added felt to the doorcards too. Seems like this did not work much. I am guessing now the pops/creaks is probably from sunroof or someother parts.
Trying to locate the origins still. Any advise?

Additional rattle fixed! I has another very annoying rattle or creak which appeared to be coming from the centre dome light. I removed this numerous times but could not get rid of it. Finally I found that pushing on the headlining to the left of the dome light where the sun visor is connected stopped it. So removed the dome light assembly and pushed plenty of dense foam into the area.

Problem solved! Very pleased. Car is perfect now!

Can believe you had too do this to a so called premium build car. I have the same issues but I'm far too lazy to attempt fixing them. Glad I'm not the only one with these issues.

Sunroof/roof area creaking and rattling will need additional insulation. That is the only thing that worked for all the noises in my G20 from that area now its dead silent. Only issue i have now is the rear deck/parcel area that rattles UGH!

Can you tell what insulation had to be added and location? Did BMW fix it?

I have taken my car to service multiple times and no success in fixing the sunroof creaking. All they do is apply some grease and the creak comes back. I have suggested the service bulletins for replacing rollers shade parts but they don't agree it is required.

I also have the reardeck/ roof area creaks. Quite annoying. My friends 330i is dead silent and mine feels like a different car.

To be honest im not sure. I have the paperwork that i can email you if you like.. where in California are you?

I know for a fact all of 2019 and early 2020 models have these issues. All G20's after that are dead silent.

I am in bay area. I thought so too as I got a 2021 loaner recently and had no issues as well. Not able to dm. Can you share screenshot of the service details on this fix. Might help to discuss with my SA.
