07/2020 update locked throttle and no rev counter in HUD
Hello! The wierdest thing just happened to me this evening.
I was out with some friends talking about life and stuff and and one of them asked me to rev my M340i to hear how it sounds. Bear in mind I did the exhaust flap mod, so that is permanently open. I give it a few revs and after the 4th or 5th rev the engine gets stuck at 3k rpm just standing there. I got anxious thinking I fucked something up with that exhaust flap. I stab the throttle again thinking it would get unstuck...no luck, gets stuck at 4.5k rpm. I quickly press the start button to stop the car. I start it again and everything seems to be back to normal. I'm thinking "well, that was pretty embarassing". Going down a few block in sports+ I notice it, the rev counter and shift lights were gone in sport+ from the HUD. Now I started to think this is a glitch from the 07/2020 update as I just update the car that afternoon. I posted a yt video down below. As you can see, the rev counter appears when I put it to be on at all times, but that's bugging me because I lose all the cruise control functionality of the HUD. I tried reseting the iDrive, but no luck. Any ideas? Could it be from the exhaust flap? I didn't unplug any cables from it, but rather I disconnected the motor from the valve by removing the spring, so no wires disconnected. Sorry for the wall of text! Any help is appreciated! |

I don't think it's related to the exhaust flap mod. Lots of people have done it (myself included) and I've had zero issues. Probably a glitch? Can you scan your car for error codes if possible? If not, you'll probably have to take the car in to the service centre.

I have an OBDLink LX Bluetooth adapter. You can download an app to read codes using that. I use my JB4 to read codes though. I've used Car scanner, OBDlink app and Torque lite to read codes. Those should work for you as well.

Did anyone ever find a fix for this? I've just noticed the same on my 840d, the rev counter only displays in the HUD when it's set to Always. When it's set to Sport mode only it doesn't come up at all (even when the car is in Sport mode)

There was a B58 software update that limited revs to 3.5k rpm in park.
Maybe it has something to do with this?
