2020 m340i CEL w/ VRSF catted downpipe
I know this topic has likely been discussed, but haven't found anything useful. As everyone probably knows BMWs recent software update has made it impossible for anyone to unlock their DME/ECU in the 2020 m340i. I have spoken to many reputable tuners and no one has figured it out - Dinan is the closest to figuring it out, but in their own words "we have no idea when we will be able to launch because we keep taking 2 steps forward, and 1 step back".
I initially installed the VRSF high flow catted downpipe with the intent of shutting off my CEL with a flash tune (either Bootmod3 or MHD). Since that is no longer an option, I want to find another way to shut off my CEL... and in the meantime am forced to use everyone's favorite piggy back tune (small joke)... JB4. Has anyone used another mod to shut off the CEL? Potentially the Fabspeed Universal 02 Spacer w/ Cat (image attached)? Are there any other solutions to getting rid of my CEL? Last thing I need is to have a real engine issue that I am unaware of because my CEL is on at all times. |

Some previous discussion on this same topic. In this example, we discussed using the spacer. Mechanical means of a work-around maybe your only solution at this time.

The upstream O2 sensor of catalytic converter provides feedback to the DME. The downstream O2(which is also on the down pipe) is where you would install this J-style connector and is the "dummy" O2 that measures the effectiveness of the cat. There are no other O2 sensors that I can find in the exhaust. The original link I posted above provides clear directions where to install. This link also shows the O2 sensors and I only found two. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=18_1524

I have the vrsf DP as well and have CEL. I have tried using a 90 degree 02 spacer and it didn't take cel off so let me know if this works

02 spacer or even a mini cat will not work. I have tried this on my B58D in my 2020 X3 M40i with no luck. Always comes back in a few drive cycles. If not a catalyst efficiency fault I would get a catalyst heater fault. These new engines are very smart now.

I tried all the tricks. Nothing worked, eventually mine cleared itself and stays off mostly only back when really really cold. Or when I'm shit kicking it real good. But always clears again.

And if you so tune, these will keep your car in good health... especially when going Stage 2. On the intake, a lot of people don't do this, but I liked installing an oil catch can as well (keeps your intake clean of oil contaminants). I purchased both from Burger because they are pretty cost effective. |
