Injured a rib while surfing

Cracked a rib surfing 6 weeks ago. Still healing and wish I could go surfing. I mean I've gone since then, just trying to let myself heal. Nothing else in my life is stopping me from doing other things.

This is at least 19 bones I can honestly remember braking....well I can't remember 9 of them cause they happened at once. (4 yrs old, Hit by car, died, resuscitated, and don't remember anything from it)

I think I'm just over the whole breaking bones thing. I'm 36 and I feel like for a 1/4 (at least) of my life I've had broken bones and injuries.

Just complaining that's all. Anyone else got a broken bone that is stopping them from doing things?

I'm almost 60. I have broken ribs in the past as well as a knee cap and a few fingers. They all healed but now they all give me grief years after the breaks. Getting old is a bitch.

Dued, 19 is a lot! I've been fortunate in that the only bone I've broken was my nose. Compund fractured at the bridge and protrusion just in front of my right eye. This was from being t-boned in an intersection. I have lost 80% of the passage way in my right nostril because of it. I can't express how difficult it is to breathe in a mask for 10+ hours a day due to this.

Currently torn rotator cuff in both shoulders, a tumor in my right armpit with accompanying nerve damage in the right arm, due to location of the tumor being wrapped around the radial nerve. This makes shoulder presses a blast at the gym.

I ain't bitching though. There are people out there with much worse ailments than mine.

Time to check for your bone density level. Either you are a crash dummy or you have soft bones.

Ahh, the old surfing and broken bones routine.

In college, jumped into the water from the bottom of stairs to go surf. Waited for a wave to come by, expected to go about head deep. Water was below my knees. . .

My partner jumped ONTO his board, and paddled out. I walked up 2 flights of stairs, across the street, then another flight of stairs. Got in shower and pulled the suit off that last ankle and felt the bones separate.

When my "partner" got back, I was in a cast. You LEFT me to drown.

It was an epic winter at Campus Point that year. The DAY the cast was cut, I was back for a session of tiny waves on my longboard.

I'm not joking when I say I have a golf addiction. I got a hernia a few months ago and tried to put off getting it fixed until after golf season ended, but it was screwing up my game so bad I just went in the last day of July. I played one round two weeks ago but it was too soon (I got really sore), so I took last week off. Going to try 18 this weekend.

Hang in there, you'll be riding again soon.

I've broken my nose before playing basketball, that's about it for bones. Had a closed nasal reduction done at the doctors office after like 10 days. About 10-12 injections around the nose so I don't feel a thing, and he just pushed it right back into place...

It was funny because he pointed a mirror at me after and asked "how does it look?" to which I replied "maybe push it a bit more over to the left?" Thought that was pretty funny, might at well get a perfectly aligned straight nose right?

Wearing a nasal strip for like a week or so was the worst part, people just assumed I got a rhinoplasty done.

You should have seen the metal bird beak I wore for weeks after my accident. I looked like Terminator meets Toucan Sam. Not only did I adorn said beak, I also rocked an eye patch at the same time; however the eye patch didn't do a great job of hiding the horror underneath.

4 yrs old - hit by car 9 bones
5 yrs old - jumped out of swing landing on arm breaking elbow
5-7? yrs old - moved a growth plate in my hand
8 yrs old - fell off bike breaking ankle
14 yrs old - broke toe
17 yrs old - pinky right hand
18 yrs old - pinky left hand
28 yrs old - rib fracture
35 yrs old - pinky left hand
36 yrs old - pinky right hand
36 yrs old - fractured rib

I know I'm missing some because that isn't all of them. But you get the understanding. Glass bones? Maybe, but I'm still confused how I broke my rib surfing. Heard a pop and then pain. No snap, no crack, no nothing. I have a theory and you might think I'm crazy.I went out when a hurricane had just passed so the waves were ripping. Well I surf in the shark bite capital of the world. You could literally see them tearing it up out there. It's their home first, I'm just living in it. So anyway, I had just ducked under a wave and was kinda stretched out when it happened. No other surfer was there. I think maybe a shark or something rammed into me. Just a perfect spot.

Or I have weak bones....thats probably more like it.

I've fallen off motorcycles (not including dirt bikes) twice.

Once was at a racetrack doing about 180 Kms/hr. The handlebars broke me left thumb and then hit me in the chest and cracked two ribs. Next day on a 24hr flight to Europe.

This was after my wife telling me I shouldn't go, you can imagine how it went when I got home!

The second one was a high side doing about 20kms/hr. Went straight up in the air and landed right on the point of my left shoulder. Smashed my collar bone in four places and broke the scapula as well. My shoulder was hanging off!

I can remember the ambo pulling me up by my shoulders and fainting and then again when the nurse at the hospital tried to straighten me up.

Those injuries don't give me much grief now but my knees certainly do. I've had partial replacement to both and when I get old enough I have to have a full replacement of my left one. These are from playing contact sports for about 40 years.
