Once anything is farmed out to China or Mexico it, without fail, usually goes to SHIT. I've seen this happen with so many iconic brands that once manufactured great products only to see their products turn into total CRAP.

I was very leery when BMW first started manufacturing cars in the United States in South Carolina. It took them a while to get up to snuff, but now it’s on par with Germany. The fit and finish and build quality have gone up drastically, and there’s a culture of pride for the vehicles they produce that wasn’t originally there. But once manufacturing is farmed-out south of the border, I guarantee build quality will go south with it. It is all about saving costs, which will not be passed on to us customers and BMW enthusiasts.

I feel manufacturing the cars in Mexico is total sacrilege, and I don't care about tariffs and whatnot. The whole point of wanting to buy, own and drive a BMW is because of it’s German heritage, German design and of meticulous German manufacturing. It’s part of the BMW mystique and what we, as customers, are paying a premium for. German Engineering and German Build Quality mean something! It makes a statement and that is what you are paying for. After all it is THE car that has set the high standards that every other car manufacture tries to follow regarding luxury, sportiness, and build quality – they don’t call a BMW “The Ultimate Driving Machine” for nothing.

If you are a lover of the iconic BMW 3 Series that has been the benchmark for sporting sedans of the automotive industry for decades, then call BMW of North America’s Headquarters in New Jersey at 1(800) 831-1117 ex 5819 and speak to the Head of Customer Service to voice your honest opinions, concerns, and feelings about your favorite auto brand making a terrible decision td chat may destroy the reputation of the brand and diminish the value of your cars.

My Mazda is made in Mexico and it has one of the highest reliability ratings in Consumer Reports magazine. My iPhone (and yours too) is made in China and is quite reliable too.

Crappy products are made by crappy companies regardless of where they are actually made. Sure, there will be teething problems as manufacturing is moved to Mexico, but it will have very little to do with Mexico and Mexicans.

I would assume though that since the North American cars do vary slightly that the chances of Euro deliveries being a thing is probably pretty slim.

Also, damn some of you guys are wayyyy too butt hurt that they're opening a factory in Mexico. The assembly process is mostly automated at this point and I'd wager BMW knows how to train people to make cars to the finish they require. Maybe shut the hell up about illegal immigrants and drug cartels as they have nothing to do with the new 3 series too.
All this means to me is that my build will arrive way faster than waiting for it to go across the ocean.

Yeah its all about the company's QC and processes. I mean tesla's are made in america. They are put together horribly. The w205 C class, I remember looking at when they first came out and the bumpers/rear taillights were misaligned on tons of them. Tons of people complained about it on mbworld and thats in Alabama. A friend of mine has a new Audi Q5 and it doesn't look any worse built than my A4 but its built in mexico.

I've never really subscribed to the concept of not buying a first-year vehicle, but if it's compounded with also being a first-year manufacturing plant it might make some sense here.

The drivetrain is largely carryover. They will come out with a new drivetrain during the LCI so this way it's never a completely new vehicle and should have less issues.

Can we expect the introduction of the M340i G21 at the same time as the M340i G20 ?

Can I order analog gauges instead of digital? Will the analog gauges be orange or white at night?

From what I saw this weekend, the blue is not too different from Estoril (darker and more reflective): I do like the tail lights though.

Possibly, but you'd have to compromise on the nav screen and iDrive. At least in Europe the digital gauges are part of the big navi package (Live Cockpit Professional).

iDrive is always in, but e.g. Harmon/Kardon is not possible with the classic cockpit. And it seems to be white illuminated.

I didn't mean you lose iDrive entirely, but you get a smaller screen and iDrive 6 instead of 7 it seems.
The H/K condition is hard to understand...

2019 G20 330 starting MSRP (per forum original post): 40,200
2018 F30 330 starting MSRP: 40,250

I would expect the G20 to have more, and not less, standard equipment and features as compared to the outgoing F30. Therefore, am I reading something wrong, or do we agree the G20 is being very competitively priced compared to the outgoing F30? It's $50 less (not that this is a large amount, but surprised it's less and not more).

Competition is fierce--cars such as Stinger/G70 or even Honda make all the safety features STANDARD, while the German makes still charge > $1k for adaptive cruise control, jeez. I still remember when MB charged $1000 for ABS or driver's airbag.

I agree. So to clarify, we think the G20 is keeping same (if not better) standard equipment as outgoing F30? If true, and starting at $50 less than F30, I’ll be pretty surprised..

Adaptive cruise is a convenience feature not a safety feature.

I think it makes sense. For better or worse, Tesla is stealing sales as their sedans now outsell BMW and probably mercedes or is at least very close to doing so.

I think this will force BMW to really think about pricing. I personally prefer BMW, but a Model 3 vs a 3 series priced similarly is intriguing to a lot of people.

I actually like it. Different in many ways. The front is new and improved. The rear is less desirable imo. Kinda C class benz look as far as roundness goes.

The interior is much improved and needed it. Just hoping the overall performance and steering has improved and is more responsive. I suppose it won't be close to the E46 or E92 feel. Dead and gone.

Lastly, the the ? on the engine reliability will be a crap shoot. Bugs, gremlins, etc . Hoping nothing like the pos N63. Different animal but mine is just killing me. Next year we shall have to entertain an order I believe. Excited!

Cruise control is a convenience; ACC is both convenience AND safety (the car slows down when someone suddenly cuts in ahead of the car). One can argue that power steering is convenience (less arm wrestling) when in fact it's also safety (easier to maneuver out of danger). It's semantics; regardless, features such as reverse camera (used to be a luxury item) is now required by law. Someday LKW/LKA and BSW will be expected on every car. Now that many Asian brands make these features standard across their lineups, the Germans should follow suit, or prove that their system is far superior to justify the exorbitant sum they charge.
