I zip tied the factory bracket then screwed the plate on to the bracket.

There are only three options in this instance:

- Move to a state with one license plate requirement
- Pay fines because personal front end aesthetics conflict with state law
- Have 2 plates and elect to focus on more important topics

Options 1 and 3 seem to make the most sense. In California, the front plate requirement is a part of the amazing weather tax. Happy to pay it.

Nah. Just place them normal. I don't even like them being on the side.

+1. I find a lot of NYers do what the OP has done. Reminds me of bugs bunny for some reason.

Why didnt you mount it above on the area where it should normally be on, or what am I missing? Sure it's always better without a plate but in Europe its mandatory and the spot above is the most natural at least?

I'm in Colorado and will continue to take my chances with no front plate. I'm willing to pay the fine.

The German dealership using 3M tape for the front license plate holder (long European plates), that or get the tow screw mount with an offset license plate mount, might mess with one of the sensors. Other than that...trim up the zip tie and it's good.

+1, This is what most folks do in Europe and how BMW delivers ED cars.

Actually the cool thing about California is that most of the time the police wont bother you about it, especially in Orange County. Highway Patrol more likely to stop you or if they are looking for a reason to pull you over, then you are giving them one. I dont have it on this car because it came from a state that didnt require and I dont have the front plate mount. So carrying the tag with me so if I get stopped for that, hopefully they just give me a fix it ticket.

Most people I know still have the dealer advertising plates for years. california cops don't care, they have bigger things to deal with.

Tow hook license plate holder is a more stylish option in my opinion. You don't have to drill any holes and it looks cool on the side. You can adjust it so it would not interfere with your parking sensors.

not a bad option if you don't want to mount it how you did

Ohio just did away with the front plate law. I'd check around, maybe some other states have too?
