BMW Again Confirms G82 M4 Will Exceed 500 HP in M4 GT3 Preview
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW Again Confirms G82 M4 Will Exceed 500 HP in M4 GT3 Announcement Today's press release from BMW (see below) regarding the M4 GT3, a customer racing program model, sees BMW reconfirming that at least one of the road-going G82 M4 models will exceed 500 HP. As we've posted previously, it's expected that the next gen G80 M3 and G82 M4 will come in multiple variants with different power figures. This statement was in the press release: The production model BMW M4, which forms the base for the BMW M4 GT3, is powered by a six-cylinder engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo Technology that achieves more than 500 hp. And yes, the M4 GT3 teaser image as seen below confirms large vertical kidney grilles, as expected. Full Press Release: New icon for BMW M Customer Racing: BMW M4 GT3 to take to the track in 2022. December 6, 2019 Munich. The customer racing range of products in the BMW M Motorsport programme is getting a new top-of-the-range model. From the 2022 season, privateers and privateer teams around the world will have the opportunity to do battle for wins and titles in a GT3 model based on the next generation of the BMW M4. The BMW M4 GT3 will be the new top vehicle in the customer racing offering. The race car has been in development for several months and will undergo intensive testing next year. The BMW M4 GT3 will succeed the BMW M6 GT3, which has been in action around the world since 2016 and has brought home wins at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (BEL), the FIA GT World Cup in Macau (CHN) and in numerous international race series. The production model BMW M4, which forms the base for the BMW M4 GT3, is powered by a six-cylinder engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo Technology that achieves more than 500 hp. The engine and chassis of the road vehicle are the perfect basis for the development of the GT3 racing version. With this goal in mind, the BMW M engineers built an engine – the S58 – that boasts impressive engine characteristics and explosive power delivery, the motorsport genes of which can also be experienced away from the racetrack at any time. “With our new GT3 project, we are emphasising the significance of BMW M Customer Racing. It is a central pillar of our motorsport programme,” said BMW Group Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. “With the introduction of the new GT3 regulations for 2022, the BMW M4 is the perfect base. The core product from our colleagues at BMW M is yet again just great. Without wanting to give too much away, the BMW M4 GT3 will be a real highlight in terms of optics and technology. The term ‘icon’ is definitely appropriate here. We want to play a major role in international GT racing with the BMW M4 GT3, as its predecessor did at its victories at the 24-hour races in Spa-Francorchamps, at Macau and in many other race series around the world. Development is already at full speed. The rollout is planned for the second half of 2020.” Markus Flasch, CEO of BMW M GmbH, said: “It is only logical that future top models in customer racing will be based on the next generation of the BMW M4. We will already be setting new standards in terms of sporting performance in production, which is why it makes sense to present the new GT3 sports car on this platform as well.” While the 2020 season will be one of development and testing, regular tests in race conditions are planned for 2021. Anyone interested in the BMW M4 GT3 should contact BMW Motorsport by email at: M4GT3@BMW-Motorsport.com.

Nice find! I love how the groove in the hood between the kidneys seem to extend far up the hood. I hope the production car will have the same to break up the big slab of metal ( or is it maybe CF ).
Another interesting detail here is the shape of the front fender vents. Again I hope the production car get similar. |

I haven’t seen what the new GT3 rules entail, but it looks like they are trying to differentiate them even more from GT4. Current GT3 cars are quite a bit wider then the GT4 but those front fenders are showing some more extreme aero bits than the current cars to include the M8 GTE. Probably won’t happen, but BMW needs to drop the M8 GTE and come up with something more competitive in the class.

The G80/G82 renders and leaked pics didn't look promising, but this render looks awesome!

If I remember correctly the M6 ran GTLM and GT3 together at one point. |

This is big news philosophically because BMW has not entered with a 6-cylinder in this category of Motorsport in a very long time; I'm talking E36 & early E46 days. (Team PTG anyone?)
In fact, it was the limitations of the S54/P54 Inline-6 configuration that ultimately led it to be outclassed by others (i.e., Porsche) that prompted BMW to make the bold move to stick a V8 (P60) into the M3 with the E46 M3 GTR (which was technically "cheating" because the production M3 E46 had a 6 cyl, and BMW then found a loophole to homologate the GTR but in the end it was still hardly production and hence the ban). Of course, the ban didn't sit well with BMW and they still wanted to race the M3. This, combined with the fact that BMW M engineers also figured out they could saw off 2 cylinders from the S85 V10, may have indirectly & spiritually contributed to the birth of the actual "production" V8 M3 with the E9x generation and now the headache of homologating a production V8 M3 was in the past. BMW continued to race with some variant of the S65/P65 all the way through with the Z4 GT3/GTLM/GTE/GTD until it bowed out to the M6 GT3, which was also a V8 but S63 based. And now, almost two decades later...should be very interesting.

In all seriousness, I'll bet they stick with Ricardo:
https://ricardo.com/news-and-media/n...for-the-bmw-m6 Now, for the next factory BMW GT4, whether that ends up being based on the G82 M4 or switches to the G87 M2, it'll be interesting to see because it would typically use a beefed up version of the transmission from the road car. They did use the ZF8 in the M235i/M240i Racing, so I would not be surprised to see the GT4 get the ZF8 as well. |

lol even BMW knows how bad the grill is that they continue to show renders without the full grill.
With the angled fenders and widebody the grills will probably look great on the GT3
