Final caved in..

Racechip had 25% off yesterday and I thought s0d it so have a Gts black on order...
Published gains are just over 430bhp and just under 430ft lb torque. The MHT version (as I have) is a bit less that the non mht version.

I must admit I am looking forward to the extra bit of oomph having had mine for 18 months now! I have had dtuk boxes before but the racechip seems to be the go to for the m340 outside of jb4s which I didn't want as don't fancy making a hole in the bulk head. The dtuk box I had on my f31 was certainly effective and you could tell when it wasn't on, so have high hopes for this.
Obviously still not m3 levels of power but a nice bump.

If anyone wants to get one let me know and I'll get you a referral discount

Will post back once fitted and I've had a play!

Interested to see how you go. I'm toying with DMS though I know that they are really very expensive. Then the head kicks in and tells me that near 400bhp (I think the 374PS is usually a bit conservative) is probably too much already.

I had a TDI Tuning box, well I had 2, as I could never get either to work and they kept putting the car into reduced power mode...

I also kept imagining crashing and my broken body trying to haul it's way to try and remove the box before the ambulance arrived...

In the end I just decided if I wanted a more powerful car, I'd buy one...

I've just taken my Racechip off ahead of a scheduled service at the end of the month, and I can really notice the difference without it.

I've also previously done some acceleration runs with it on and off and really makes quite a substantial difference.

Hope you enjoy it, I've never had any issues.

Well yes but insurance shouldn't go up that much as it didn't before.

I would like an m3 but for a daily with kids and a dog it's a bit extreme. Well the price has something to do with it as well!

Installed it today and while I didn't have that much time to drive it has certainly made a difference. Noticeably more torque and certainly feels like its got more power. Not sure if it is the 440bhp and 440 odd ft lbs obviously but I'm happy, well apart from the boost sensor clip being a pain to get off!

First proper strop in sport and sport plus tonight and it's definitely got a bigger kick!
Definitely one for the Christmas list.

Tried a couple of tuning boxes before and whilst they gave a noticeable power increase they always dyno'd way below the claimed figures. Then went for remaps using E-Maps on my E60 535d M Sport and Evolve-R on the F31 335d M Sport Xdrive. They dyno'd very near to the claimed levels and were much better in terms of outright performance, linear power delivery rather than a big lump all at once and certainly economy during normal driving. They did lots of miles with these tunes without any issues what so ever (535d - 105k, 335d - 45k)

I would always go for a remap from a reputable outfit now based on my experience. Unfortunately they don't seem to have them yet for my boat motor M340d..... shame!

Tuning boxes do give you more grunt but they do it by simply fooling your ecu into thinking that the fueling and boost pressures are lower than they actually are. This usually means the hp figures don't jump way up, but the torque does thereby making it feel much quicker.
The old saying still applies - Hp sells cars, torque moves them.

Darkside Developments** are a well known / respected tuning outfit and they anonymously bought some premium label tuning boxes and tested them, and corresponded with the suppliers about the results. Its an interesting if lengthy watch (see link below). One thing stood out to me and that was the part where they looked at the rail/injector pressures and how it seemed these were being raised well above the safe levels to get the extra power due to the relatively crude way tuning boxes work, potentially causing premature injector failure.

Whilst I'd certainly agree and personally would remap my car instead of using the racechip if it were possible without sending ecu away, I've got to say the racechip has given some pretty solid results when I did back to back runs with my dragy

0-100mph with chip 8.83 without 9.52
62-124mph with chip 8.95 without 10.76
30-100mph with Chip 6.97 without 8.12

Quite a difference, I'd still map it instead if it were easier though.

Yes I'd remap if it was easy as have had full maps before but the modern boxes are pretty good these days. You can always find people debunking anything online as you can always find stuff to support it.
Either way by bum dyno and speed that the speedo goes up tells me it was worth it to me.
