Unlike past models that have an exclusive engine and transmission, this more of a parts bin car. More power and AWD is great but... I dunno. It will still sell, but what will make this model unique? Normally I'd be able to come up with something, but I can't (outside of the snout). I guess the AWD? It's going to be interesting once it's released.

With regards to prior generations, current owners at the time were in fact excited about the exterior. In fact, aside for weight, people were excited about the M3 in general.

The community response today is completely different.

I think the unique feature for this gen will be the optional carbon bucket seats. I agree to an extent that there seems to be fewer parts bespoke to the M3/4 than in previous generations (S65, S55, carbon drive shaft, cfrp bootlid for M4 etc.). Perhaps more interesting items will be revealed at launch.

However, if this is the only way they can continue to build these types of cars, so be it.

Inside BMW, it's the 6MT.

Agree! Not only do the grills look awful, the sensor is not even symmetrical. Has anyone ever thought of how in the world this is all going to work with US front license plates? It's going to be an absolute mess, look beyond ugly, and cover up the sensor. What an absolute joke of a design.

I just don't understand how some states still require front license plates. More and more states are removing that requirement. Living in Florida I've never had to worry about it so I definitely feel spoiled a bit.

It's interesting so many folks are willing themselves to love this car all in the name of brand loyalty and fandom. I promise if one of the other "rival" car manufacturers (Tesla, Mercedes Benz, Alfa Romeo) came with a design like this the memes and threads clowning would be incessant.

Some of us actually like the design on it’s own merits. In regards to brand loyalty it’s something earned much more by the driving experience than any design elements. BMW and Porsche have been the only cars for the last decades that feel “right” to me in terms of ergonomics and handling and mix that with great engines. Of those two BMW offer much better value in terms of total cost of ownership.

Every time I get excited about another brand it’s a let down in one way or another getting behind the wheel and the drive home in my one generation older BMW make that clear as day.

I expect the same to be true for the G8X generation. So yes I’m excited, it’s been 6 years now with the F80 and I’m ready for the next chapter

Agreed.. I like the design and I'm not a blind BMW fanboy. Within the last few years I bought new both a B8.5 S4 and a 981 Cayman. However, I'm also not a BMW traditionalist where I am outraged by their design changes that go against traditional design traits (as long as I still dig the aesthetic). If they came out with a design I didn't like, I'd again look elsewhere.

I just happen to like the G80 design, drive train options (6mt) and expected driving dynamics over the current competition in the segment. If the G80 doesn't do it for me, I'm also considering a Model 3 Performance for my daily.

Holding out full judgement until I see it in person, but these pictures/renders/spy pics always have a hard time conveying how you feel about a car until its right in front of you. One of the cars that comes to mind, at least for me, is the Nissan GTR. Doesn't look like much in pictures, pretty boring since it's been around for 10 years, but when you see one on the road or park next to one, it has a presence about it that's just not conveyed thru still pictures. Similarly I think of the F10 M5 in the same vein (i'm bias), but the rear and 3/4 rear view I just love, along with the side profile but in pictures even on my phone of my car I just don't get the same feeling.

What are you talking about? The F80? That had the S55 which was based on the N55. The S54 was based on the M54. The S50 motor was based on the M50. And the E30's S14 was based on the M10 4 cylinder. The only one that was "unique" was the S65 V8 in the E90 M3 which was really just a an S85 with two cylinder chopped off. Those two engines also happened to be the most unreliable M3 engines ever.

So how is the S58 any different from every other M3 engine before except for one?

If you're getting the automatic, then I feel bad for you. Considering this will be the only 3 series with a manual, I feel that's pretty unique at this point.

Spy shots have shown that the American plate holder fits fine with the sensor. Do you honestly think BMW didn't think of that when they designed the car? That it would cover up the sensor?

Regardless, do you really want ACC in an M3? Wouldn't it make more sense to get an M340i if you're mostly commuting in your car?

In the past, most (I would estimate 60%) of the community was excited about the exterior. Many were still complaining about the stylistic changes on the exterior.

This time, early polls had 34% liking the exterior. That number has increased (although many already voted) as people are warming up to the look.

There's a difference, but I don't think it's as substantial as you are making it out to be.

I think some of us fans actually think there is potential and are giving BMW the benefit of the doubt at least until the reveal and likely an in person look. Some cars look better in the flesh than in pics and vice verse. Some just seem to will themselves into tantrums over a car design and act like they know more about car designs, car markets, etc. than one of the most successful car companies in history. It's ok not to like, but also ok to like. Beauty (or lack thereof) is in the eye of the beholder. For you guys that already don't like a car that you haven't fully seen, you have to understand that some of us might actually like it once we see it and see the potential of liking it at this point in time.

Maybe if you lower it enough a portion of the grilles will scrape off and the car will look better.

I think states like 'em because it makes the speed & traffic light cams more effective. I hate them. At least if we had a Euro configuration option. I think I would either use a tow hook asymmetrical mount, or mount at the very bottom of the grille with a Sto n Sho type mount.
