Hari Kari even

Flew out on a dual carriage way and now a smashed grille

Right hand flaps are broken as well.

Any idea of replacement costs? I'm thinking 2 to 300 from a dealer?

But the bird can still flap it's left wing though :P

Sorry to here this. I had one fly into my windscreen last week at 40mp, luckily it just bounced off and carried on flying, no crack!

Thanks mate. I'm looking at new oem parts and they are not too bad. My local dealer however wants 200 for the grille plus 140 for the replacement flaps without fitting charge so looking at about 500 all in...

That’s an expensive ‘bird strike’. I feel your pain I remember clouting a pheasant on the A15 just outside of Boston and it took out my near side headlight unit on an E36 318iS. That cost about two hundred and odd quid back then. Didn’t even get the chance to eat the bugger since half of it was strewn up the engine bay, right bloody mess!

I had a similar thing happen to my 330 e91 a week after collecting....I was not happy mind you...nor was the pheasant when I pulled it out the Kidney Grill so I feel your pain.

Got the formal quote today and it will indeed be 500 quid.
Apparently they have to take the bumper off to install the new flaps behind the grille. If it was just a broken grille I'd do that myself as looking at you tube seems reasonably simple.

I am actually still tempted to do just that and say leave the actual grille replacement which will save 100 quid all in but then means finding the time and hassle factor so keep flip flopping.

But would you be happy with that in the long term, for the sake of what, 20 to 25% more cost? Then, as you say, finding the time to do it and the hassle you could encounter?

I didn't explain it very well and meant leave the grille replacement to me. It would actually save about 130 quid as I didn't factor in VAT.

I'll see what they can do as they would have to take the grille off to change the flaps.

Sorry to hear of your little accident as the cost is a bit of a sore one.

It also makes me fear I won't be too far behind that cost to repair the bracket that holds the radar and lower inner section of the inner bumper.
