Do you think the BMW Genius on-line chat is a real person or AI ?

I've been consulting the Genius on line every week or so for the past few weeks, chasing order status updates on my car, and it has just dawned on me that I am probably talking to a robot. The responses are never identical, but always very similar - they always start by complimenting me on my choice of car. Sometimes they say "I think the colour you have chosen really suits the car", or "It’s great to see you’ve chosen the most powerful letter in the BMW world… M!",or something like "I have had the pleasure of driving that particular model and it's fantastic".

Also their names sound somewhat unlikely (apologies if one of these is your name) ... for example Zain, Kaynat, Amna, Danish, Sakib, Anisa, Skender, Abdi.

I have to say the responses are very realistic and I'm not sure either way but on balance I would say it is AI.

If so, it is very impressive and they have always answered my question adequately.

If not, then I apologise to the real people who have patiently and professionally dealt with my all too frequent requests !

I think you are probably right. Perhaps the AI system comes up with an answer automatically but if the confidence level is less than high then a human intervenes and reviews the answer. Perhaps when it says "Anisa typing ..." it means waiting for human review. 80% of questions might get answered automatically, 20% with human intervention (for example).

Never spoke to them as personally never saw the point in chasing status codes, just relied on dealer to tell me what was going on now and again... however I would assume its a human just pressing random buttons of preset text, to save them having to type some stuff in.. And to stall whilst they look up the answer to your query.

Sounds like I've not missed much... very cringy and a little creepy.

Haha.

It’s outsourced to a call centre in the Philippines.

They have a script they go through and some “auto reply” buttons, that’s why they sound so robotic at times
