thoughts on best runflats
Right before I start - please be respectful- I am not interested in anyone’s opinions on replacing for non-RF. I choose to drive on RUN FLATS and I would go as far as to say it’s one of my reasons to stick with BMW. So by all means start your own thread on the subject but please leave now if that’s all u have to add ..
Now that’s out of the way … Need to replace my original run flat P0’s and wondered if there’s a better tyre before replacing like for like. It seems Goodyear a3 have a good rating lower noise and better wet performance. I only need them for summer as I have winter tyres for that part of the year. Mainly motorway driving. 340i touring on 19’s. Thx I’d be interested in any (constructive) opinions. N |

There's a comment in another thread about F1s having soft sidewalls, and having recently bent a wheel on a pothole I'm inclined to agree.
I know I'm in a minority of not much more than 1, but having had over a dozen beemers in the household over the last 20 years, I prefer Potenzas over any other tyre. |

If your Xdrive remember the BMW guidance regarding the mixing n matching tyres and their tread depths etc and the issues it can cause with your xfer box.

Had the Goodyears on my f36 4GC and thought they were good, but my 330e came with Pirelli. I think the Pirelli’s are pretty decent, low noise, seem to be wearing well. Currently at 48k KM and still some life in them on 19’s. Will be replacing them with Pirelli when the time comes.

Hmmm I’m on P-zeros but use winter tyres nov-March. I’m now on 47k miles and the backs are pretty low now. All this heavy rain we get isn’t good on motorways so I’m replacing earlier than some would. My son tends to go right down to the west indicators but then he’s a racing driver and understands grip far better than I do !!

I have 19” Pirelli P7’s on my M340i and I feel the ride is quite rough. I had both Continental and Bridgestone 18” runflat tires on my 2015 328i and they were both a much smoother riding tire.
I’ve been considering a switch to Michelin Primacy MXM4 ZP all-season runflats, but I’m not stuck on that choice. I want to try to improve the ride, and I prefer all-season for my potential weather conditions. The Goodyear F1 and Pirelli P Zero are summer tires, but I would consider them if I thought they would provide the best ride. |

I’m on Pirelli P Zero PZ4s at present and they seem to be ok. Not as supple or quiet as Goodyear Eagle F1s which I would go back to in a heartbeat if I thought were more robust sidewall construction nowadays. Understand you tending to stick with Bridgestones after many years but I would have to say that I find them noisy and hard riding and could never understand why BMW chose to put the Turanza ‘touring’ version on the M440i as opposed to the Potenza ‘high performance’ tyre, doesn’t make sense to me? I’m visiting my local dealer in just over a weeks time so I’ll ask how they are finding current version Goodyears for sidewall robustness and if they are still seeing them with pothole damage more frequently than the other makes we’ve been discussing. |

And I agree re the Turanza, although Potenzas are available star-marked in the right sizes and speed/load ratings so I guess they could be used. I must admit though I've never put them on a 4-seater soft top so they might prove a bit too firm. OK for the coupe though I would have thought. |

I’m assuming the Turanzas were preferred to the Potenzas by BMW solely for the ride quality and maybe noise levels also.
I know BMW always try to suit the tyres to the car’s ‘image’ and tend to portray the M440i as more of a GT than a sports car leaving that image for the M4 derivatives. Either way I prefer the benefits from RFTs v conventional tyres and puncture kits so look for the best of the current crop of approved run flats. Unless Turanzas are deemed more suitable for X-drive applications although I can’t think why? Getting back to the OP’s request my suggestion would be Eagle F1s or PZ4s. |

My 330e come with Pzeros. Almost 57K KMS and it's time to change.
I'm happy overall and they lasted a lot (the best I had from any rft tire). I'll probably stick with them. |

I've been looking at changing to Go-Flat - but if there are good options in Run-Flat - then I'll consider staying with them. Certainly would simplify the boot equipment. Regards, Mike. |

As above! ^^^
Would be very interested to hear your views/impressions of the Eagles once you have them fitted OP? How they feel, ‘scrub in’ and especially the robustness of the sidewalls (we don’t expect you to actively search out potholes to test that theory though!). |

I've had GY Eagles fitted since the car (2023 330e M Sport Pro) was new, so about 3 months now. I have the adaptive suspension and the ride in comfort is fine. If the non-adaptive suspension was the same as Sport setting, then I would find it too harsh on urban Liverpool roads. The sport setting is great when I give the car its legs though.

GY Eagles fitted last week so now done a couple of hundred miles on them. Rears only will swap the fronts in a month or two.
No massive difference to the P-zeros a bit squirrely at first under power but I think they have bedded in now. Noise levels may be a bit lower but u suspect that’s placebo as that’s the outcome I wanted it to be lol. Shout out to Fergies BmW specialists in Thatcham Berks who looked after my rims and gave me a free proper valet voucher for when the tree sap stops shedding its crap. Will report back when I have the other 2 fitted. |
