Key not recognised
Left my M340i whilst we went for a walk in the county and on return the key wouldn’t open the car. I used the Connected app to open the car but It wouldn’t start and came up with key not recognised error. I tried holding the key by the steering column several times but no joy so I phoned Roadside assistance and they booked a rescue. We sat near the car for about an hour or so and as the assistance hadn’t turned up yet decided to try the key one more time and it worked first time! Cancelled the assistance and drove home. I’m now worried it might do it again....

I had a similar experience in my G20 330ix where I would get a "Key not detected in vehicle" when pressing the starter button. In my case holding the key Fob next to the steering column did work but then the same error kept occurring every few days intermittently. The BMW Genius suggested I take it to the dealer but before I did I tried re-registering the key fob with the car by using the steering column to start the car and then simply lock and unlock the car using the key fob from inside car. No problems for about three months now.
