These things are always difficult to predict, the general market act in mysterious ways. To me the Slush-box AT + RWD is just a bizarre totally unnecessary combination. Once the AWD is available who will go for that? AT + AWD at launch and then AWD + MT at a later date and skip AT +RWD or move it to base level would make much more sense.

Very good point there. My attention was fixed on the manual option. But if I were looking for auto, you're right, why go for RWD, when AWD is available. Much better as an all-rounder and puts the power down more efficiency. The only reason to go for RWD is if you constantly want to slide the tail out. But even then, I'm sure BMW will include the that version of AWD that allows for decoupling of the tiny axle linkage, like the M5.

Gem. 18s much better looking and better ride than 666. Feel free to draw on 401k and get a 2021 PTS 992 GT2 RS

I'm willing to bet 0.4-0.5s to 60 and definitely more composed at the track.

And higher corner exit speeds by getting earlier and harder on the throttle, add that jump start on the RWD car up for every corner...

It will be quicker 0-60, probably by a couple of tenths if the car comes on sticky tires. Could be 0.3+ if it doesn't. However on a track, the AWD would be the complete opposite. AWD is heavier and will make the car under steer. Plus if you're planning on tracking for a 30 minute session, the RWD car will produce a faster overall time. That may not matter to 99% of the buyers though who just want to go fast in a straight line and tell their coworkers they bought a new "fast" BMW.

Still hoping that the car comes with a 6 speed in Comp form. By the looks of it, it doesn't. I would hate to spend a ton of money, which i'm sure the G8X will be at first, and not even have 500 hp. I have a feeling this will be C8 Z06 money (except the C8 will have 650 NA hp).

The X3MC can already run 0-60 in the low 3s. The G80/82 is gonna be insane!

You haven't driven an AWD M5 and played with the settings on track, the system will be faster most likely in all cases as the AWD system doesn't add a ton of weight and I bet it will add less than 150lbs vs an RWD vs AWD M3/M4. An if BMW cuts weight base weight an AWD may weight the same as the F80 as the most recent new generations of BMW have been adding features but have weighed the same or less than last gen.

Additionally, high-performance AWD systems don't tend to make cars understeer.

The M5 AWD system is on the level of GT-R or 911 Turbo good... problem with the car is the weight.

True, but speed is not really in question. Tesla's can run around BMWs and Porsches. What the German brands excel is the overall driving dynamics. That is the key differentiator for enthusiasts. If we want speed, in a few years, electric cars will be the way to go.

I am thinking the G80 AWD will be sub 3s (0-60), it won't trap like a M5 but should easily be in the 123-126mph range

Hybrid ICE cars will be the way to go... I think we have a few decades before everything is full EV if that ever happens.

No charging structure (takes to long, not enough stations, U.S and I'm certain other counties power grids aren't up to speed for the masses) batteries are crap/material will become rare and expensive.

I think if they do Hybrid ICE with EV ranges of up to 100 miles the full EV push will die.

The fastest of the fast cars within the last decade have all be ICE Hybrids .

The question is what path does BMW go with the next-gen of M's. Luckly the M2 and M5 are up next.

Gentlemens bet.

The AWD variant will be quicker around a track; not just in a straight line.

It looks unbelievably composed in the videos.
