Weird qualifying strategy from Mercedes - not sure I quite understood what they were trying to do.

But nothing was ordinary this season and makes for an epic final race of the season.

I think tomorrow will be interesting, particularly race strategy. Max does well conserving tires and if he can maintain a good race pace, I'm curious how this plays out with those softs as it seems he does not have mediums?

If VER is able to maintain some sort of pace to keep well ahead of HAM, switching to finish the race on hard's is possible assuming he's able to warm up the tires in the gap he may have over HAM. Also keep in mind when Mercedes will get off the mediums and likely switch to the softs (I think Mercedes still has a set). It's going to be an intense race towards the end.

Ocon, Vettel, Gasly, Ricciardo and Alonso are all summoned by FIA for "unnecessarily impeding" another car (summoned = heard by the stewards at the Abu Dhabi circuit; subsequently the stewards decide whether or not to impose a penalty). I sadly had to miss qualifying, but what a result.

I'm not sure I like the idea of Max on reds and HAM on yellows.
I understand why RB chose for it, with the reds you virtually guarantee to be first at T1 because of the traction benefit and then of course you control the race.
I think the red tyre will probably give about 0,5s per lap advantage in the best case?

But this probably means Max is going for a 2 stop and HAM for a 1 stop?
An undercut by HAM is at least not possible, so if both go for a 2 stop, Max will still have the tactical advantage up to the 1st stop.

It's going to be an interesting race tomorrow. NOR also on reds, can he overtake HAM with an incredible jumpstart?

Any self respecting race car driver looks at his own performance and results first and not at battles that others do with eachother.

Lewis definitely has the upper hand tomorrow with the tire situation, hopefully Max doesn’t try anything dirty with the tire disadvantage and we get a clean race. Shame that Max flat spotted his mediums during Q2 and they had to put him on softs. I wonder how many laps were on his other medium set and if they could’ve used that instead.
