looks like they are keeping hamilton (and the car) away from any presentations right now. not even going to bring to the constructors champion presentation.

As with so many things in life, it is not the strongest of the species who survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.

The F1 Mercedes AMG car was for many consecutive years the strongest of the field and Hamilton had/has most credentials and accolades of all drivers competing. An invincible combination, at least on paper. But still, despite the excellent team, tools, tricks of the trade and tons of experience, he was outsmarted and pipped by a driver 12 years his junior who managed to get the world driver's title that Hamilton and his team had taken for granted. Hamilton and his team underestimated their main rival. The last lap at the Abu Dhabi race was emblematic for the 2022 season, a pars pro toto: closer than close can be, but not enough for Hamilton. The 2022 season was not just 1 race - it was preceeded by 21 others. Actually, Hamilton did not "lose" the F1 WDC in the Abu Dhabi race - no, he simply "fell short" getting it.

How did Max outsmart Hamilton? Neither Max nor Lewis are responsible for what Masi does. Had Max dominated the entire race only for Masi for literally give the race to Lewis, I don't think Lewis would claim he "outsmarted" Max. Even the comments from the other drivers show how confused they were with Masi's decisions, it wasn't something anyone ever predicted for experienced. It's probably the most corrupt moment in any mainstream sport, it's hard to recall another sporting incident that tops it.

But the damage has been done and life moves on. FIA has already begun making changes to save face and try to reestablish some integrity.

Masi should not have dictator-like power. If regulation 15.3 gives him FULL control to use the safety car as he pleases, that means he doesn't even need an accident or any sort of incident to justify the use of it. If there is driver with a huge lead and the crowd is bored with the lack of a battle, Masi could exercise his right to deploy the safety car with the sole intent of bunching the field back up to give others a chance to win. That scenario is just as ridiculous as what happened in Abu Dhabi. Is that acceptable in sports? Most people emphatically think it's not acceptable.

If Mercedes doesn't withdraw their appeal, maybe we'll get an answer to what lengths the race director can go to directly manipulate the outcome of a race as he sees fit.

Double champ Mika Haakinen says it was the correct decision from Masi to let them fight it out with the back markers out of the way and it's tough luck for Ham he was on the tyres he was.
The telling words from Masi were that it's a motor race and ready to go with the pace car not needed any more, time just ran out for Ham.

It's not necessarily a problem to make the decision to allow Max and Ham to fight it out, it's just there wasn't enough time and Masi didn't choose to red flag the race which would have allowed at least some sort of fair competition. Was Masi not allowed to drop the red flag? If not, why not? It seems he had the power to override all rules and do whatever he pleased. If the goal was for a "motor racing" finish, the red flag was the proper way to set up that finish given the circumstances.

Changing the way safety cars are handled without notifying teams exactly what change was taking place to allow them at least some time to react and make a decision was terrible because that prevented Mercedes from believing they had an option to pit without forfeiting the race. That's not a matter of getting lucky or unlucky, that's a race official making a direct decision to provide a team with a huge advantage and influence the outcome of the race.

Had Mercedes gave up track position and pitted only for the race to end behind the safety car, it would suck but that outcome would be 100% legitimate under the rulebook and Masi couldn't be blamed for anything.

The Belgians tolerate a lot more than the Dutch ..

Carry on ...

For example : From last weekend ,This is a "MERCEDES ML" in the Netherlands"

Well written response by Mercedes and everyone saw the race and will remember what took place. They should be proud of their performance, we all witnessed it.

Personally I would have preferred a #1 result shared by Hamilton and Verstappen, as I commented earlier. I trust that that would have been applauded worldwide as doing justice to two competitors who both deserve the WDC 2021.

Two athletes got ready to battle for the gold medal. Equal points. Mutaz Essa Barshim asked the jury member whether two gold medals were possible. The jury member confirmed. He immediately proposed it to his main rival Gianmarco Tamberi, who instantly accepted: both received a gold medal. Now that's a gesture of ultimate respect for each other.

Imagine for a moment Hamilton and Verstappen deciding to share the championship title. The water is way too deep between them, too much has happened, but why not ?

Likewise: see what Alonso said after the Abu Dhabi race about a shared trophy: 01:17 - 01:25:

Staten Island's history.
Quote:
At the end of the Second Anglo-Dutch War in 1667, the Dutch ceded New Netherland to England in the Treaty of Breda, and the Dutch Staaten Eylandt, anglicized as "Staten Island", became part of the new English colony of New York.
The Brits won that one.

Peter Stuyvesant was born 10 miles from where I live FWIW....

But for now

I lost my 'faith in racing' already '7 seasons ago' or so with the all time low for me @ Silverstone '21.

But hey.... Each to their own.
