Hi,

I have used my Samsung S21, with Android 12.0, in my car for some time; car has software version 07/2021.

There have been no problems until recently. About 2 weeks ago, text messages only displayed phone numbers, rather than the name associated with the number. When I go to contacts, there are none and iDrive displays nonsense, showing Today with a time later in the day.

In an attempt to correct, I have:
* Unchecked & rechecked Download contacts in iDrive
* Updated apps & services
* Reset iDrive
* Rebooted phone
* Unpaired & repaired phone
* Cleaned phone's cache partition
* Rebooted phone

All to no avail. Would very much appreciate any thoughts to correct. Is there some order of the above actions to go through?

I thought it was just me. This happened to me the other day. I have a S21 ultra. Happened after a recent phone update. I fixed it by having the phone forget the car and the car forget the phone. Also restart the phone. Phone will walk you through permissions for access to contacts and such. Good luck

I have this problem to after upgrading my Galaxy S21 to Android 12.

Well, it's back --the car's lack of access to my Samsung S21+ contacts! When I try to reload contacts, I get times in the future for last contact reload. themnmd, I tried making phone (Bluetooth, WiFi & Android Auto) & car forget pairings & re-paired/setup them

The first time it happened, things just came back to normal-- well, after I did everything in my earlier post. This time, the problem just cropped up in last 2 days

Perhaps a trip to the local genius? Not sure if a phone or a car issue

I read your last post and was going to run over to dealer & get their Genius to help.

This morning, however, I put my phone in charging tray & started my car and Contacts and, therefore, messages are back to OK! I did notice through out the day that it took several minutes for the Android Auto icon to appear, but it did

BTW, I am most interested because this problem has become chronic on my car. Some days everything works fine & Some days, this problem??

Apologize for not responding sooner, but as I said in my opening comment, this problem comes and goes in my car so I wanted to wait a few days.

Well, after several days, the fix you provided seemed to be working. This morning, however, the same old problem came back -- contacts didn't transfer to car. I got to where I was going turned off the car and went it to setting in my phone and did the fix you provided; then started the car up and the problem went away -- so apparently, it may not "stick"

Also, discovered that for some reason, all of the pictures in the address book don't transfer, but I think that is more of a Google Contacts problem -- though I did try changing Picture Limit from No to Yes on my phone

BTW, on my Samsung S21+ running Android 12, I had to go into SETTINGS, and search on BLUETOOTH PBAP to find it

I have the same problem again after a short time.

I have a Samsung S21 Plus and this problem suddenly popped up about 3 weeks ago. It is intermittent so sometimes I have contacts and sometimes I don't.
I ordered a new phone, another Samsung. Hopefully this won't happen again....maybe it's an issue with the S21 series.
Lastly, During a service visit I received a loaner, a 2021 430i Xdrive and it had the same problem.

I might be wrong, but it seems to me that it's an Android 12.0 operating system issue as the Bluetooth PBAP is part of that.

I've noticed that when the problem crops up, the contacts in Android Auto are there, albeit with some having no or old photo. This tells me that phone's contacts are OK, but not transferred to car

I would urge all to send Google feedback about this issue

On your Samsung phone...

1) Go to Settings, select Developer options, Bluetooth PBAP, Bluetooth PBAP version (or just search for pbab in the settings menu and select "Bluetooth PBAP version")

2) Change the Buetooth PBAP version from PBAP 1.2 to PBAP 1.1 and then click apply

3) Change the Buetooth PBAP version from PBAP 1.1 back to PBAP 1.2 and then click apply
