They need to do this otherwise I think sales will fall flat.

I get why so many are upset over the grill...but to think sales are going to fall flat? I mean, really? Highly doubt that will happen. In all reality...they will probably rise, controlling for possible negative economic conditions in the 2-4 year horizon.

If you look at the outgoing M4 in an abstract sense, you can almost actually see these lines coming. To be honest, I think the loss of the kink is a bigger deal than the grill. It is a major departure that allows BMW to totally shift design language in that part of the car. That said, I do think the side of the car looks quite good, though it does almost seem like what I'll call a M8stangaro. (Mustang, 8 series, camaro blend).

Exaggerated grille concept ?

I've read it all (all the afternoon ) and I must say that at least this big grille is not so flat, but slightly inclined to make it look like a "true BMW".

I could add that maybe this concept has a grille that is purposely exaggerated so that we won't be so much shocked when we see a production version with a slightly smaller grille like this photoshop :

How is LTMW going to graft that front bumper onto E90/92s?

It's like the guys/girls who break up with their significant others/spouses and exclaim with confidence, "You'll never be happy, nor will you ever find anybody better than me!!!! I'm the best thing you ever had!!!"....

....only for that person to find happiness in someone better.

BMW will be just fine. They've already accounted for the potential losses, but new customers will fill that void. If you lose some resistant older customers, but replace them with more progressive customers with fresh eyes, you win. As a business BMW is doing the right thing by moving into this new realm.

You've got something there. Considering how BMW body stylists like to dip into the Italian language when naming their paint schemes etc., I suggest they call that optional front end "Vaffanculo dynamics fascia", using a popular Italian expression of bonhomie and warmth.

Yes, yes, if that sort of grille works on KIA, it should be OK on BMWs too.

Porsche offer a package like that for the new Cayenne. It turns a car that looks 99% like the version it replaces into 99.9% to the tune of a couple of grand. I thought it insane until now when I realize there is a big market for it

Let the progressive customers purchase the electric vehicle with no grille.

I'm sure those seeking electrification will do just that. BMW wants to snatch those potential customers away from TESLA.

Thats TBD, and specifically on the M3/M4....If the US market of enthusiasts reject the design, of which our boards non-scientific polls show 80% hate this design, and if that equates to a net loss of say 15-25% of sales in year 1 vs f80/f82, there will be a real problem for BMWNA and hence M and BMW. They will be forces to address the situation, so to the 80% i say lets boycott this mess and send a me$$age!!!!

But they'd have to get actual customer feedback because not only are they going with big grills but going to AWD + ZF auto. So a lot of previous M3/4 buyers might not buy due to that drivetrain switch alone. I for one like the big grills and will gladly take a G80 in 6mt + rwd, if it comes to fruition.

Don’t get discouraged and deflated BMW, this is great.

I'm so sad by this, I have been a bmw fan since I was a little child. Me and the wife were looking forward to potentially replacing our M2 with the upcoming M3. But I really don't see us getting the new M3 if it's going to have the gigantic grills cause it's just plain ugly. Same reason we've passed up on a Alfa Romeo cause we both can't get past their ugly front! Sadddddd sadddddddddd I am....

The F8X went from a screamer of a NA V8 building power all the way to the 8500 redline giving it one of the highest piston speeds ever in a production car and a resulting heavenly sound track to a turbo charged farting harsh sounding 3l I6. It went from BMW signature HPS that communicated every change in grip levels to a near numb EPS.

None of those things reduced the number of buyers. I can only interpret that as M3 buyers are highly adaptable and accepting as long as the new car bring performance improvements and remain a top achiever in the segment so I strongly doubt it will play out any different this time.

Kinda funny that since this reveal came out, bimmerpost has posted an average of 3-4 articles per day. Kinda like they wanna drown this thread so far down the line... makes you wonder. Average is 1 or 2 posts a day..

Sure, people want something new and exciting, but they also want something good looking.

This M3 is quickly going to gain a rep for being an ugly SOB. In the enthusiast community it already has.
Totally agree on that one. That happened to me when I saw the G20, sold my F80 comp.

G22 looks amazing and now looking at the F series its looks dated and aged.

I love the G22. AmAZING DESIGN. For the rest who hate it, do not buy it. Nobody is forcing you to do that. You got dough for the M4, its 150K, use it to buy something else. Seriously. Its just a matter of taste.

I absolutely love the car.
