Possibility of G8x redesign?
I know the topic of the larger grill on the G82 has been discussed multiple times and opinions on the new look are varied. Is there a possiblity that BMW would do a second year redesign of the grill if the first year sales fall below expectations?

Nope never going to happen. They already know the big ugly grills sell so this one will as well. X7 and X5 grills are even bigger than this monstrosity and they sell. Glad I am in an M4 CS for 3 more years, might buy it out in the end or go for a black on black C8 Corvette and jump ship. These new models are not my cup of tea and this is coming from a 16 year and 6 new consecutive BMW consumer.

Well, there is a lot of room for the aftermarket to fix this.
In the mean time I went from a 2015 to a 2019.

I like it. BMW's styling has gotten stale and it's a nice change to a more aggressive look.
That said, it's unlikely they will change it any meaningful way. The overall size and shape are here for the next 5-7 years.

Redesign will come in 7 years when the G82 replacement comes. I’m so glad I decided to go with 2020 M4 to replace my 2017 M4 instead of holding out for the G82.

Meh I'm just as turned off by AWD and the auto trans... don't think I care for future M cars now.
I think after the M4, my next goal is a 911. I was considering a 911 instead of the M4, but I was swayed to the M4 because then I can afford something that still has warranty and a maintenance plan. Right now I don't want something older that might have issues, because I've grown tired of that for now. |

The only saving grace for the G8x is it'll be the last generation to spec a 6MT

Johnny Lieberman on the most recent Smoking Tire podcast said that the big grills were due to pedestrian crash safety standards. If that’s really the case, then probably not re: refresh. Also I’m sure they will sell just fine! We enthusiasts are the minority and there will be a ton of regular guys with some cash that will lease this and then return it for a new model 3 Years later. Plus who knows, we may see it in the flesh and may like it or grow to like it.

The horrendous grills were the sole reason why I replaced my 2018 M3 with a 2020 M4 just a few weeks ago. The plan was to get a loaded G80, but seeing those grills, I decided to find a fully specced M4 instead. You never know, BMW redesigned the F15 X5 much quicker than anticipated. The LCIs in general tend to look a lot better. I'll have to see what aftermarket options are available when the car does come out. Meanwhile M8GCs are sick, might go that route or P-car route once I decide to replace the M4.
I have gut feeling that the G80/82 are going to post absolutely insane performance numbers, which might entice me to buy one anyways. Especially since AMG is going the 4 cyl. route.

Good points. I am going to wait until I see the car in person before I make a decision on it. As we all know, pictures and video media don't do justice to a car's dimensions and overall presence. One thing is certain though, the car will put up some serious performance numbers.

No way they redesign it - they can blame coronavirus and horrible economy for lackluster sales.

f80 is probably the last bmw i'll by for a while.
2 series looks terrible f90 is heavy and huge g8x looks terrible and it seems like they aren't giving you all the bells and whistles if you order a manual. you have to get that automatic trans instead (not as good as a DCT). the only hope right now is an S58 manual supra if you are a BMW enthusiast. |

Agreed. When I thrashed an M340i at the BMW UDE with the ZF 8 Speed...it's not crisp like a DCT. Feels like it's missing something. It's good for going around town though, but the DCT is smooth too in D1 mode.

Has there been any inclination if the next gen M2 will also have the huge grills too?
