It is most likely in the manual but my car won't be here until April. I had a '20 M340i loaner a few weeks ago. w/ the fob in my posket, the car would automatically unlock when I walked up to it. Then when walking away after a drive, it would lock. A few days later I had an X7 loaner but couldn't get it to do the same. Is there a setting somewhere in iDrive?

Yeah it's in Idrive under vehicle settings --> doors/vehicle access

On mine it comes with the comfort package and you have to set it in the idrive menu.

You have a few options, you can either open/lock with key fob buttons, auto open when approaching and auto lock when walking away or open on grabbing the door handle and lock when touching the door handle on exit
