Grinding noise when reversing with AutoHold
Hi fellow BMWers,
I am a new BMW owner for only 2 weeks, mine's a BMW 320i G20 M SPORT, this is my first auto car so I am still getting used to it. Everything seems fine except this one small thing, I noticed that whenever I put the gear in R and start pressing the pedal, the car would make a moderate grinding noise (similar to that noise you hear when start driving after car wash/rain). Sometimes the noise also occurs when I start the engine and start turning the wheel. After I start driving the noise will go away, no noise e.g. after waiting for a red light. This only happens when the auto-hold is on, if I turn off the auto-hold feature and do the manoeuvre (e.g. reversing) the noise also went away. Is this normal? Is this on a very slow move off, as if the brakes are still partly engaged?
What if you are a bit quicker to move, still the same? |

Mine tends to lock up the rear brakes when its cold out. I can put it in gear and it just sits there until I give it gas to break the brakes loose. I hope that is normal.

I think this is movement in the opposite direction when the parking brake is applied to the rotors.
Happen to me a few times in a huracan I left the parking brake on and tried to reverse. So im sure its the same concept |

It’s normal. All my cars do it when it’s freezing outside.

So when I switch from D to R the electronic handbrake isn't on . However if I engage the handbreak manually and then do the D to R no sound. So like you said the auto hold is forcing against the brakes but it does sound awful and still not right
