Installing spoiler after getting trunk lid repainted

Hi everyone,

I’m getting my trunk lid repainted after removal of the OEM spoiler stripped the paint. Planning to install an aftermarket CF spoiler after.

Would it be fine to install the spoiler after getting the trunk lid repainted or should I let the paint cure for about a month before installation?

Any information would be great. Thanks.

Was the car fairly new when you tried to remove? Any pictures?

I would wait a couple months until the paint fully “cures”

I agree, I'd wait.

Here’s a picture of the damage. The removal was done by a performance shop.

I spoke to the staff there and they stated that it was due to the adhesive used on installing the OEM spoiler (I believe it’s Betalink). I’ve seen some threads of betalink causing paint damage upon removal, and also spoke to a body shop that stated the same.

We remove and install spoilers at our shop daily and have seen this issue before. In our experience, as people have mentioned in the thread we would recommend waiting anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months (consult your paint shop).

We recommend using 3M VHD tape and 3M adhesion promoter when installing your new spoiler to prevent this from happening again.

Thank you. I got the trunk repainted (they did a great job) and they recommended a month before waxing/ceramic coating/installation of the spoiler.

Btw I have your guys front lip and side skirts installed on mine. Looks great on the car!

I'd guess anywhere from $900-$1700 depending on the shop.

Yep was about, I went to a couple shops yesterday 1200-2000 was ball park I had some scratches on the front bumper too they said they’ll repaint the front panel / door scratches for $1200 and they’ll toss in the whole front bumper for another $500 so $1800 total which didn’t seem too bad to me

What is the best way to remove a factory spoiler to prevent or minimize this happening?
