A Flash Tune is surely better, but with the locked DME it's a problem.
I was even told that after the unlock with an OTA Update, there could be problems again and the lock would disappear. The question is how much power do you need? With a box you get in the range of around 350hp and with a real chip tuning some have reached around 400hp. I personally use a Speedbuster tuning box (similar to RaceChip) and it has brought 77PS/100Nm. Original was measured at 287hp/438Nm and now has 364hp/538Nm. ( 45.000Km with no problems so far ) |

Do you have the B48B20A version of the engine or the B48B20B? How much boost is that chip adding? My questions are because I have a Turbotransformer and it doesn’t play well with my car (with the B48B20A engine). If I add +2 psi it adds +4 or +5 so I’ve to set it to +1.2 to actually have +2 so I’m looking for alternatives. |

I have also the B48B20A.
To be honest, I don't know the exact boost values. There is a smartphone app where you can change the "levels" between 1-15. The manufacturer told me that the default setting is #6 and each level up adds about 2%. The above values were measured at #8. ( it means a difference between 100-200km/h about 3.5-4 seconds according to Dragy. ) |

But as I see they have 50% BlackFriday sale at the moment, so it costs just 300 EUR. (I use the CTRs version) https://www.chiptuning.shop/en/bmw/3...185kw-1998ccm/ |

I’m running JB4 map3 on 93oct. I’m not sure what my whp is but I believe it’s very similar to 316whp or 360hp at the crank. My 1/4 mile time went from 13.5s at 101mph (stock) to 13.0s at 104mph (JB4 map3) Not bad for for just piggyback only. I’m thinking of installing an intake, dp and running on E30 on map3.

Yeah, I activated launch control. Traction control off, brakes and gas fully engaged and just let off the brakes at launch. I usually give it a sec after seeing “launch control activated” on the dash before letting go off the brakes. Not sure if it makes a difference but I want to make sure I’m at max boost. Tire pressures were 33psi front, 40psi rear.

Mine was measured at 364hp on 91 oct(ron 95). Since I can’t launch with RWD on winter tires, I compared the rolling area times. (my 1/4 trap speed is the same as yours, so 168km/h - on 91oct). Your 1/8 -> 1/4 time 4.72sec and the difference between the trap speeds is 33km/h My 1/8 -> 1/4 time 4.71 sec and the difference between the trap speeds is 35km/h It means, that we have the same performance in the rolling area, but your AWD has more drive loss then my RWD. |

It doesn't seem there's too many options for tuning the 20A engine, so it would be interesting to hear your experience. |

So far everything is fine. No problems, no error messages, works great. I'm currently at ~61000 km.

I have a Skoda Superb tdi 190hp and with the speedbuster box it measured 232hp. I installed the box from almost day 1 with less than 1000km and now my car has 297.000km without any problems. The box its really good When i leave the car for maintenance i always remove the box and the car feels like a snail....i´m used to the car behaviour with the box Now...i´m going to receive a new 330e touring and i´m almost sure it will be with the B48B20A.... I would like to know (if you don´t mind) if you can update how things are going with your car Still no problems? Thanks in advance |

330i Speed buster...
Quote:
Good work you done to your car, amazing performance. I need your help with my car, I have 330i G20 258hp and I recently bought Speed buster CTRS from my friend's 300e hybrid. Will it work on my car, and if I install it what will happen? Does the boost in the box is additive value like in jb4 or something else? Thanks alot |

If it's the 330e then it could work, although you may not get the same performance as with a box programmed for the 330i. If you've already bought it, then there's no other way than to try it out... Depending on the engine speed (camshaft sensor) and the selected level (1-8), the box should provide extra boost. Technically it would be possible to change the characteristics of the 20i by adding more boost at the upper revs ( like the 30i does) , but that is not the case with the Speedbuster. If you take a look at my Dynosheet you will notice that the power curve characteristics have not been changed. The same thing will happen with the 330i too, so it will add an amount of boost. But I think that the 20i can handle a higher percentage increase than the 30i, which already has more power from the factory. So I would definitely start the test with a lower level. |

Yes, typo🤣
It’s 330e as you figured out. I thought the same as you said, the 20i needs more boost to reach 30i numbers. It has 7-8 psi stock so the additive boost will be higher than the 30i can handle, about 11 psi additional boost. I am afraid from over boost. Now the new app doesn’t support boost gauge as before, how could you measure your boost? How much do you have now? You are using 95 Ron? Does it knock or cutting power? |

Regarding the additional boost: honestly I don't know if they work with absolute numbers or with a percentage (I would guess the second one, since in this case it is much easier to program the box for other vehicles). What could happen then? When they operating with the absolute target PSI you won't feel any extra power, because the 20i's increased boost ( by the box) is slightly below or equal that of the 30i stock. If they work with a percentage (the support also speaks of +/- percentage) then you have no problem and you have the same characteristics as now, but with more boost. That's why I gave you the hint to my dynosheet, where you can see the same thing. The only way I would be worried is if they changed the power curve on the 20i to be similar to the power curve on the 330i, but this is not the case. That would mean that above 4000-4500rpm there is significantly more boost (in %) needed (see e.g. BSR, where they changed the characteristics with flash tuning https://www.bsr-tuning.de/tuning-kit...2020-b48-b20-b ) and excatly that would lead to to much boost on a 330i. So if I were you, I would start with #1 and work up slightly to #6. |
