Just an update on this, I finally got mine installed (had this done as the dealer was fixing a warranty-related issue and was in the shop anyway, so unfortunately i don't have photos of the install).

What I can say is that with an iPhone 12 Pro, the charging has been 3-10% per hour while using navigation via CarPlay. Without CarPlay active the phone does not get as warm, and it does charge faster. But the tray is enough to be 'net positive' charge when using navigation, which solves my biggest complaint about CarPlay draining the battery quickly.

For what it's worth, my OnePlus 8 Pro seems to perform slightly better both from a drain and a charging speed perspective, both in the X5 and using normal desktop wireless chargers.

Awesome to hear. Thanks for the update, I haven't tried it on my iPhone 12 Pro Max yet. That would be great if it charged even that little amount in an hour. Before it seemed to just charge nothing but keep it stable.

I find it odd they don't have better charging, the car has plenty of power haha.

Wireless Charger for G20

I have a 2021 G20 (M340 XDrive) which came without the wireless charger. I'd like to retrofit with the OEM part which I understand to be either part number 84109434000 or part number 84105AOE550

My question is do you need to also order and install the LTE compensator as well or does the car come with that pre installed? In other words do I need to order just the tray or both the tray and compensator?

I ordered just the tray. I still get service with my iPhone 12 when it’s in the tray.

Hello all. I'm new to the forum and new to BMW. Like everyone else here, I'm hoping to install a charger pad in place of the NFC pad. I don't really use NFC and I'm not sure I want to get into coding so I'm willing to sacrifice that functionality. From what I've read, it seems most have used a wireless tray from bmwpartspro or another BMW parts seller. I may have missed this in the thread but has anyone installed one of the carqi trays? Since they're only $70-80, I'd rather buy one of those than a $150-200 tray if they work just same. I have a Galaxy S8 and my wife has an iphone for what it's worth.

Thanks.

I purchased a carqi charger for my wife's F26 X4, only to find out that it is for LHD-vehicles only (the cupholder tray area in the F26 is asymmetric), so it's of no use here in Australia.

I disassembled the charging tray, as I may 3D Print a custom tray for the RHD X4... The attached picture is what's inside. I hooked it up to a bench power supply and confirmed it charges the phone pretty well, but compared to the OEM BMW part it does seem pretty cheap in comparison...

The OEM part itself is a good bit more $$, but by the time you wire in the carqi charger I don't think the install effort will be much different. the OEM part might even be easier. Another option to consider is the BMW "cupholder" wireless charger -- it's not as nicely integrated into the dash, but I suspect that 1) the phone wouldn't get as warm as it does in a tray, and 2) you can still see/access (safely, of course!) the screen of the phone easily if needed.

Thanks for the reply. I guess you get what you pay for. I wasn't interested in the cupholder charger because I don't want to sacrifice one of them but I might look at it after all. 90% of the time I'm in the car by myself anyway. And, it has been in my mind that it would be nice to be able to see the phone screen sometimes instead of having it buried in the dash.

A couple of days ago the part showed as discontinued. It's back but now says additional hardware is required and is sold separately.

Any thoughts?

edited to add I dropped an email to bmwparts pro shortly after
Posting here. I'll update if they respond.

Ordered 84-10-5-A0E-550 and switched it out with my NFC pad, Coded with Bimmercode and it works perfectly! NFC with iPhone works too. Thank you all for the info!

Hi All,

Can anyone pls confirm that 84-10-5-A0E-550 is the correct part for the 2021 330i? The part stores don't seem to have the 2021 parts populated and even my VIN fails lookup.

Much appreciated.

Could anyone tell me where to buy part 84-10-5- A0E-550 to receive in Brazil? The indicated sites do not ship outside the USA.

I have a 330i M Sport that came only with NFC. On Ebay, I found only used feathers in a not very good condition (from the photos) and with PN: 9437712.

I would like to buy the new OEM part.

I know I’m late to the game, but I just got my 21’ g20 and it came with the nfc pad.
I bought a wireless charger tray off eBay and should be getting it soon.

Can someone show me the instructions for the software iPhone reminder and Bluetooth please.

Thanks !!

Does anyone have the instructions? The link at the beginning of post no longer works.

Nevermind, I figured it out. Got it in and working. Just need to figure out how to code it.

What did you end up doing?

I picked up a 330i xDrive for my daughter and there was neither a charging pad nor NFC pad. The pandemic has created a number of shortages and therefore this was eliminated at the time of the build.

I'm curious as well what parts I need to install the pad. Appreciate anyone's help on this.

When I look at a second hand tray on ebay it looks like there is a connector and an aerial socket. Does that make sense?
I'm in the same boat with just a tray (no NFC). What did you end up doing?

Still not done it. I found a part number for a connecting cable but nowhere seemed to recognise or have it. And still don't know where it connects, apart from under the centre console somewhere.

Has anyone installed the OEM wireless charging pad that did not come with an NFC pad?
