This has this pinched from top and bottom profile on the rear, unlike on the 5. It had the same look on the F3x car, but not on E91. So I think sedan all the way on the 3 series looks wise (though I usually prefer tourings).

That's exactly what I disliked about the F31, like it's wearing a high backpack, unlike its two main rivals. The G21 alleviates the inelegant effect a little, but it deserved better indeed. Now it won't make me buy the sedan instead if I really need the Touring

I think the current 5 touring is a very nice car and a barely specced 5 is much nicer imho than a fully specced 3. The quality of interior and how the car drives is superior, imho. Im seriously considering it.

Please, no more GTs at the least. I'll take anything but the GTs.

Amazin how US-based forum members still comment as if they're expecting something here.

I'm surprised the whole forum is even going, such is the level of disgust over the design and BMW's treatment of the US market!

Let BMW exit the market. The Guilia can take over as the RWD sporting sedan de nos jours, to be driven aggressively and up the arse of everyone who dares get in the way of the hard-core owner, without ever using indicators - much as BMW owners in the UK sighed a relief when the Bluetooth headgear set moved into Audis

I largely blame the media. Automotive sites like Autoblog and Motor Authority have published articles in which they offer either strongly worded speculation or they outright state that the G21 will be available here. They appear to be making these assertions mainly on the basis that the F31 is still up for offer in the US.

Have a look at the nonsense:

A certain company headquartered in Silicon Valley would appear to have the more likely successor at this point.

But it's so ugly, wish they used those resources to make fast estates instead! I know my opinion is subjective but it honestly seems like such a silly vehicle category.

Have you carefully examined the combination of rear seat legroom and cargo space and compared to any other 3 or 4 Series model? BMW shorted the wagon with tight rear seat leg room and the 4 GC is even worse. Form follows function and the GT is far more capable if one needs, as we do, to carry 4 full size adults, plus "stuff". Ever have any smart, wonderful friends who weren't gorgeous too and somehow it was ok?

Yes, I understand your point for sure. At that point however, why not just buy something like an X5 with even more space? Also while arguably being better looking.

Don't care for tall and boxy...not better to my eyes, nor do I want a higher roll center for vehicle dynamics. With the GT, I still have the experience of driving a car, plus carrying very happy people and lots of stuff. If the wagon had the GT legroom, I would have been very happy with it. Hoping the next 4GC has better legroom if we don't ever see the wagon.

F31's legroom is exactly the same as F30's. F36's legroom is virtually the same. It is F34 that is the exception here because it has the wheelbase of the Chinese 3 series, 11cm longer than all other F3x models.

F34's main issue is its high center of gravity and extra weight, which make it much less interesting to drive. Ugliness can be forgiven. Shitty dynamics in a BMW - never.

3 GT rear legroom: 39.2"
3 Series sedan/wagon rear legroom: 35.1"
4 Gran Coupe...WORST of all at 33.7"

When the choice is a GT versus a tall SUV/SAV, the car wins for me. I've got this GT lease to 2021. Hope the i4 or next 4GC benefit from a better rear seat couple.

I'm not sure what you're arguing against since that's pretty much what I said.

I'm also not sure why you're positioning yourself in this thread separately from the others - if you like GTs, you're screwed just like those who like wagons.

I don't think so. You seemed to suggest in your above referenced post that the F36 is "vitrtually the same." An additional ~1.5" rear seat legroom deficit on an already ~4" tighter package is a significant further loss. Also, compared to an X3 or X5, which would be the alternative, the GT has an advantage on center of gravity.

That wasn't my intent. If you see the quote below, I entered this part of the thread taking exception to the idea that there should be no more of something/anything for those of us who like it, just because he does not. My first comment was that no one has to buy what they don't like, so why advocate depriving the rest of us? Please see post #32. That seemed to be his logic.
