M340i jerky ride
Is it just me, or does the M340i (in sport mode) make for a similar jerky ride in regular street driving as the F80? The combination of throttle sensitivity and twitchy trans shifts makes for non-linear acceleration, which makes a shitty ride experience(I want the power, but just smoother. Kind of like the E90 335i). I feel like the car needs to be tweaked slightly to address this. Anyone else feel the same?

I drive in sport at all times, and have never found it jerky at all. Very smooth. Obviously in comfort it's a little more comfortable as the rpms don't get as high or hold gear.

I don't find Sport to be jerky at all. I think it is the perfect mode for everyday driving, except (and I'm going to be crucified for saying this) the exhaust is a little too loud for daily driving.
Yes Sport + is a little jerky, but it was the same in my F30... the M340i might be a little more pronounced because of more power. Last edited by RedKloud; 02-21-2020 at 06:27 PM.. |

What else do you expect from a high performance car? Yes it's not an real M car but this is why bmw is now making their cars more luxury oriented.
People buy a performance vehicle then complain about the ride being stiff in its most sporty mode. There's the 330i available for those who want a softer ride, just saying.

In the 340, comfort is WAY smoother than anything the 240 could offer. And, while the throttle is delayed in comfort, the dead spot isn't nearly as bad. Likewise, even in Sport Individual, with all settings to Sport Plus and the shifter in S, you STILL don't get the same level of lurching in traffic. My 55 minute commute now leaves me much less strained when I arrive at work. |

Obviously the M340i has more power, but there's not a huge difference between a 330i M Sport with the M Performance options and the M340i. It's essentially the same suspension tuning. Sport+ will have more aggressive throttle. From the one I test drove, it drives pretty well in all modes.
If you don't like sport mode, why not just drive in Comfort? It's not like Sport mode gives you more power. It just changes the throttle mapping. You just have to put your foot down more. Can't you just use a Sport Individual mode and adjust throttle and suspension settings? I never got too deep into those settings so not sure how much customization there is. My wife's new X5 seems to be pretty configurable. |

The car is smooth in sport plus, I don't find anything about the ride jerky. This is a new one, first person to make such claim here. Irony here is that some of us wish the car had a little bit more rawness, a little bit more of the M car DNA so to speak.

Point was bmw has been getting more luxury oriented bc some customers go out and buy a sports car and then complain about the car being too sporty.
While it's not a full on M car, it's still performance oriented meaning you're gonna have a stiffer suspension among other things so I'm saying you should adjust your expectations a little

The m340 is butter smooth. Toss the run flats. Comfort and performance is a delicate balance. BMW has walked that line perfectly with the m340. If the car is too stiff in sport plus, leave it in sport. If you’re happier there, that’s all that matters.
My last M3 lived in sport. Sport plus was too hyper. Comfort too soft |

If you add the THP, you get all the goodies (LSD, adaptive, brakes) but you can't get all season tires which means you need a set of summer AND winter tires. (Yes, I know, all seasons are garbage but MOST people use them as their only set -- like me!) My M340i was 60k -- with a 60% residual, I'd happily pay ~$90/month to drive the fast one and not deal with the tire swapping. |

I do not find the M340 jerky, is extremely smooth , on sport+ you feel the upshifting faster but not jerky.
My wife drives a C43 , now, that is extremely jerky except in comfort, is so bad I tough it was defective but dealer says is normal |
