Just so that people don't get confused the lower strip you are showing is also the turn signal on the US lights. The difference is that the brake lights (the two small strips above the parking lights) also light up when using the turn signals.

As for physical differences, the Euro spec only has one small trip for the brakes and the lower strip is amber instead of red.
Oh damn, you're right, the lower LED strip also flashes, I can't believe I never noticed it before.

So yes, no re-pinning, you just need to repurpose the small strip to function only as a turn signal as the ROW.

Do you know if the "rear fog light" LED cluster exist in US-spec vehicles?

Rear fog lights are right by the back up lights, so they are there but will need to be activated via coding.

I think, getting the turn signals to work properly will take some serious coding which no one quite figured out.

Thanks! Good to know, I miss them; they help dissuade tailgaters..

I tried both Bimmercode and ESYS and I can't find the proper parameters for the rear lighting...

So we're in a holding pattern until someone smarter than me figures it out first.. But based on the lack of progress in new X5 section, it's going to take awhile..

Its super frustrating. X3 folks have been trying to figure this out as well with no success.

I want my amber turn signals and rear foglights BMW like the frikin rest of the world!!!!

Even if you can code rear fogs you will need to take out the light control panel and allow the rear fog "blank" switch to be pressed.

On my F30 I had to do that to be able to get rear fogs to work. Granted it only took about 10 minutes to pop the panel out and shave down the tab preventing the button from being pushed, but just something to consider.

Quick question: how do you know the rear fog are actually there on the US model? Can you see the LEDs physically (or connections for it)? Also is there a rear fog option on the light switch? Because if not then you would need a european switch. And like I said earlier, you would need to add some wiring if the car is not wired for it.

As for coding of the turn signals I don’t see why it would be that hard I think it’s just a matter of time since the G20 is new. I am not familiar with e-sys but on the F30 forums they were able to repurpose the parking lights to turn signals. All they did is go in the Rear Electronic Module (REM) find the parameters for each tail light element and change them. I think it would be the same logic for us as all we need to do is find the parameters for the brake light and disable their turn signal function.

I already have the European Switch installed on my car, its just a matter of coding for rear fogs now

Have someone put the car in reverse and go take a look at the lights, rear fogs are visible in the back up housing.

You are completely right. It is a matter of coding and messing with parameters. Someone just needs to do it. I am very familiar coding Audi's but not so much on the BMWs. In fact, I am the 1st guy to figure out how to do this very same thing on the MK1 Q5

1. It is safer to know if someone is showing their turn signal to come to your lane or actually tapping on their brakes.

2. If Americans can figure out how to use their rear fog-lights or even know what they are, our roads will be much safer

3. Go turn on your 4 way flashers and tap on your brakes and see what happens...... Yes, only brake light you have then is your 3rd brake light. Rest of them just blink away. Super unsafe if the traffic slows down instantly. In Europe and the rest of the world, the 1st thing you do is turn your emergency warning lights to let the other drivers know traffic is stopped...... but then here in America

4. Pretty much every single country except the US and Canada requires Amber front and rear turn indicators hence the OPs post.

So its pretty much a safety thing.

Ok, I am done

All I have to say is that the G20 tail light design is terrible. Hopefully they will change it on the LCI.

Hi,

I am just cranking up my coding for my G20.

I do know that when I put in European light switch in my F30, I had to code the following in the FEM_BODY: LCE_BEL_LIN_VAR from BL_FLC (04) to BEL_FLC_NSW_NSL (0A)

Will check this out soon

That's just to change the variant of the headlight switch not recoding the actual operation.

BEL = beleuchtung = lighting.
FLC = (automatische) fahrlichtsteuerung = (automatic) headlight control.
NSW = nebelscheinwerfer = front fog lights.
NSL = nebelschlussleuchten = rear fog lights.
LWR = leuchtweitenregulierung = headlight range adjustment (not in North America).

I ordered a ESYS cord and will attempt to decipher what they did.

Man that is good to hear, seems like it was pretty labor intensive! Glad everything worked out.
I'll stay posted for the updates!

Cost me over $1500 to have it done. But it looks good.

Gotcha. I am in the opposite camp. They were very much part of the design improvements I really liked (to make the leap to BMW).
