I have driven my m340i about 1400 miles now, and I have lately noticed that I seem to feel slight vibration in the car while idle.

I feel like I notice vibration in the steering wheel more than before, although it is quite subtle. Its not that its shaking violently at any point, but it just seems like I can feel the vibration from the engine more than I used to. This may very well be because I have now gotten used to the car and am noticing smaller things like that.

When I turn the car on, especially at cold, it idles at 1k rpm and the car definitely has shake to it, but then it settles to about 750 and calms down a bit.

Even at this point, however, I still feel like I do feel a bit of shake as well as small amounts of shake, and vibration in the steering wheel.

I know that this engine is powerful , and of course I am going to feel it, but the fact I am noticing it more now has me conflicted on if my brain is playing tricks on me or if something has developed in the first month.

When you guys are at idle in the m340i, how much rumble do you feel in the car from the engine? I notice it with my leg against the driver door, and I even feel like I do feel it a bit in the seat as well. Do you get steering wheel vibration/rumble that could be attributed to the engine and/or harsh road surfaces?

It really has been bugging me and I was just looking to see what others are experiencing. Also never had a car with an engine like this before, so I may well just not be used to it.

I do have some vibration on a cold start but other than that, the engine idles extremely smooth.

The BMW inline 6 is hailed for its smoothness - both in acceleration and as far as I'm concerned, at idle too. If you compare to a V6, the idle should seem incredibly smooth.

Can't say I've noticed any vibrations... Only time I really sense a vibration is when the motor starting up from the auto stop/start. Otherwise idling I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

My M340i Xdrive is very smooth, no engine vibrations I am aware of. I did have the center speaker rattle, but fixed it per the instructions someone posted.

You purchased one of the smoothest engines in the world. If it is vibrating take it in for a check.

That's when you are driving and have lane keep assist on. He's experiencing engine vibration when idling.

It's really hard to tell how much vibration you experienced from words. If you came from 4-cylinder car, for example, the f30 330i, I would say that you would definitely notice the increase in vibration level. I used to own a f30 330i and I can tell there is noticeable difference between inline 4-cylinder BMW engine and inline 6-cylinder BMW engine, even though B58 is already the smoothest 6-cylinder engine on the market.

Another example you can compare is the C43, which uses V6. I found the vibration level in C43 is unacceptable for a car at this price level. I can feel the entire dashboard shaking when I test drove it. If you find your can vibrates as heavily as that, maybe there is something wrong with your car.

Also if you came from SUV/pick-up/mini-van where the engine might be farther from driver, it would be another different story.

As above I would take it in...there really shouldn't be any significant vibration.

Just a thought...a possibility is that you have a tank full of duff fuel - it happens unfortunately - but i have no idea if you have noticed it before and after a refuel.

Might be worth runnning the tank right down before next pit stop.

Other than that, there are probably five hundred plus things that could give vibration, from dirt/debrisin the fuel system to a duff spark plug to an out of balance component to faulty software....

I am on my I think eighth BMW straight six all silky smooth. BMW F30 four or Mercedes 3xx V6 uh uh. Something is out of wack unfortunately.

To the OP: What was your previous car?

It seems to me that most RWD cars vibrate more than high-end FWD cars with transverse engines. I suspect it's a combination of having the engine spin axis in line with the car, and having to spin the longer drive shaft. Our old 4 banger Acura had so little vibration that you couldn't tell the engine was running without looking at the tach. The 3 BMWs and 4 Miatas we have had all have/had more vibration.

(I base this entirely on personal experience, not math.)

I get the same thing, some jerky vibration sometimes when idle; I notice it more when it is on AutoHold actually and I am on a 320i.

Pro tip - find out when your local gas station takes deliveries for the week, and don't fuel up on those days. Give it a day or so after the tank refill to let the sediment and everything stirred up settle back down.

Op: M340i here as well, 2 months and ~2k miles. Have noticed random vibrations in idle that are definitely harsher than what I would consider "normal" for how the car behaves otherwise 90% of the time (both in gear when stopped, and when in park). However, the vibrations I notice are not just confined to the steering wheel, more like the entire cabin. It's subtle enough to dismiss the first few times it happens, but noticeable enough to "rock" the car a little (and the driver with it). At first, I thought it was just me, but it's real. More like a "wobble". Previous car was a 2016 540i M Sport for 3 years; never noticed a similar wobble, ever.

hello i have had g20 318i for 2 months. I did 1100km. I noticed that when I start the car in the morning, the engine is slightly rocking for the first 2 minutes, is it normal?
it is delicate, I can only feel it in the armchair.
the tachometer is in place at this point and does not move

What you're describing is what brought me to this thread. Recently started noticing this on my 2019 330i. Any conclusion on what it was or just something to live with?

I have a similar problem but it’s not like a wobble it’s just a steady buzz/vibration. I’m almost certain it’s the engine mounts because Ive ruled out every other possibility. Talked to a independent euro shop and he said the b58 is too powerful for the mounts and it wears them out.
