It's definitely taking some getting used to for me. I have an SL1 which sports a smaller build so as a result the buttons are a bit closer together than they otherwise would be. Keep hitting the wrong button or miss it completely while looking through the viewfinder.

Exclusively. It is called AF-On for Nikon and I set my bodies up for AF-On only. I find it especially useful when shooting sports but find it just as convenient for landscape, portrait and any other type of photography.

I even use it when diving and shooting with an underwater housing.

I have a very basic and generic WordPress website for my photography. Largely the same photos also get posted on ViewBug, 500px and Twitter. But photography isn't what puts food on my table so I don't get to update those sites as often as I'd like.

I started viewbug fairly recently. An interesting place for sure.

Excellent, strong portrait work. Is that lovely blond your wife? She's a great subject, with a nice mix of beauty and depth in her expressions.

My site is my link in my signature, just Flickr.

I tried Smugmug for a couple of years, but they raised their price exponentially and I didn't do a good job of keeping two sites up to date.

Here's my stuff for sale at Getty:

http://www.gettyimages.com/search/2/...se&sort=newest

Let me know if you can't see that. I don't think that you have to sign up with Getty as a potential buyer to browse and search, but you might.

A friend and I are considering starting a by invitation only, to include some top photographers that we know and then pay Google Search for search status. I'm curious to see if it's worth the investment of money and time.

I'm convinced that the way to sale landscapes is in a gallery. I've promised a friend to pay for a small bit of wall space if he can successfully open a gallery.

Anyway, I'm just trying to cover my equipment cost and justify using Schedule C on my tax return. I've stepped up my marketing efforts recently and will spend considerably more time on that end of my photography going forward. I don't want it to stop being fun, but I'm curious to see if it can pay for itself and also help the travel budget.

Nice! Selling images would be sweet and I want to do that but I realized I have to get more exposure for that first. So I'm trying to do that for now.

I agree with smug mug though, but too expensive for me. I currently use Flickr and just recently went to tumblr for a one-page site with all my links and samples on it.

It'll do for now.

If you're referring to the woman in 3 photos on page 1, no, that is not my wife. Earlier this year I wanted to add portraits to my portfolio and ran an ad seeking models. She was one of three I selected. However, if you're referring to the woman in 5 photos on page 2, yes, that is my wife.

I was, indeed, referring to your lovely wife.

Thank you very much. I've finally started putting more effort into my sales portfolio. It takes time. I don't really need the money, but it's like the "next step." So long as it doesn't overwhelm the fun, I'll keep at it.

Picked up the 100-400ii and it works well with the 7D. Up to snuff with the IQ, color and contrast. Pixel peeping might be a tad soft but that could be because of a B+W filter. I will eventually do a image test vs the MkI someone I know has.
This sucker is heavy and I thought my 300/4 was. I don't know what I'm going to do if I get that 300/2.8 I dream of. Now I definitely need a new body to get the AF to work with my teleconverter.
FYI

edit. 100% at 90 feet, 200mm , ISO 1250, 7.1, 1/640th on a tripod.

Still half the weight of my Sigma 120-300. 54 ounces vs 107 ounces. It'll seem light to me.

Have to pay for all that speed somehow Mark. One of the reasons I bought a roller bag.

I wouldn't put a filter on the 100-400. Just keep the hood on to protect the glass. To get the most out of it, you need the 7D2 or higher body and a Series III TC.

Use Digital Lens Optimization to maximize the IQ.

I need to keep the salt water spray off the front element and my photos aren't that critical anyway. Now when I see an airshow, I'll probably take it off.

I shoot 2 Canon 1DMKIV's and use back button only, have used it now for 3years. Wouldn't think about doing anything else. I'm a sports photographer and it is wonderful to just press the back button and hold it down, the camera will continue to focus on the subject as it moves toward or away from you. (AI servo) You can also press the button and then let it go and reframe as needed. It may take a few days to get used to it, but once you do, you'll never go back.

That's great, but I do that with front button. Either will do.

Glad to see this sub forum alive, please help!

Question for y'all, and I'll keep it short.

Travelling to Europe in 4 days. In the market for a camera that meets the following criteria:

- easy to carry, fits in pockets (I'll be mobile, walking around a ton)
- great picture quality (better than iPhone 6 Plus)
- sub $600
- shoots fast and is easy to use

So this is where the question splits off. Should I even invest in a camera at this point? Or should I just use my iPhone? I'm not photographer by any means, but I was thinking that if I'm going sightseeing all over Europe, I should have a decent camera to capture great moments and monuments.

If you all think I should get a camera, do you have any recommendations? I've been doing a fair bit of research and I cannot seem to decide on a particular camera. I'm stuck between the Sony RX-100 (mk1) and Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS60.

Please help a fellow member out. TIA

Stop agonizing and go with the Sony and take it everywhere with you. Get a large enough memory card so that you can shoot at highest quality. See what happens.

The keys are going to be, will you use it and, if you do, then are your pictures noticeably better than what you usually do with your phone. You'll either love it, or it'll be a non-event and you'll be back to your phone. If you see improvements and love the results, then you'll be sucked in deeper and deeper and you'll be back here asking us about which $5,000 rig to buy.

If you don't get Sony, then buy something by Canon or Nikon. This is in case you get sucked into going crazy for photography and want to move up to one of the top systems. There are other makes, but Sony, Canon and Nikon stake out the deep end of the pool.

I've actually been looking for a small point and shoot and the Sony RX-100 seems to be the best in the market right now. I'd get it simply because, while the iPhone can capture some really nice images, the flexibility of a zoom and manual controls is something I really need. My advice is to get it.
