I had an X5 loaner the other day running 11/2019.Xx ACP was working perfectly. I downloaded the OTA 07/2020.54 and straight up ACP was dropping in all the same areas. They've changed something from 11/2019 to 07/2020 I'm on an iPhone 12 Pro iOS 14.2

Although I use Android Auto, i experience drop outs on eastlink. Sometimes it is every toll gate, other times its just random ones.
Citylink I don't get any drop outs. I thought it may have been where i mounted the e-tag on the windscreen so i just removed the tag itself from the holding bracket and it still dropped out even though the tag was not near the top centre of the windscreen and was just on the passenger seat. It will lose connectivity on eastlink just coming eastbound from Alexandra Parade around a few KM in as well. Very annoying. Phone is a Samsung S10+ running Android 10 OS with latest updates. Car is 2020 330i M sport 07/2020.60 update. |

I have AA and it drops out every time I go under a toll system in Sydney. I agree with above, it's probably WiFi as I don't have the issue when connected via cable. It's very annoying, but it's only a half second cutout and keeps going without issue.

The wireless CarPlay in my 2020 X3 is garbage, frequent drop out driving around Melbourne and as you note especially on the toll roads. Dealer updated the software, made no difference. Happens with the four iPhones I’ve tried it with including my iPhone 12.
I don’t have any issues with the cheap wireless CarPlay interface I have installed in my E90 M3, nor with the dongle that I bought for my Ford that makes the wired CarPlay wireless. Whatever the factory implementation of wireless CarPlay is in iDrive 7 is the problem. |

I have the same problem with my G20 330i. Cuts out in multiple places around Perth CBD.
BMW gave me an X2 loan car with I Drive 6. No issue with I drive 6. Rock solid connection with no interference around Perth. Makes me wonder if its an inherent issue with the G20 |

Picked up a new 330i G20 and carplay problems from day 1. dropouts at the same places. BMW saying its Apples fault. not sure why they changed things, my 2018 BMW 320 was flawless with wireless carplay. they dont know when it will be fixed.
Does anyone know if this is a worldwide thing or just in Aus? |

I have an x3 which suffers from the same problem. Mine is similar to OP where the entire idrive goes blank or reboots and sometimes needs the car turned off to get it going again.
Funny thing is it happens in the driveway of the Southbank dealership. Eastern freeway in Kew is another spot it occurs without fail. The dealership have been unable to resolve the issue over many visits and now I get the standard BMW claim "it's normal". First it was "tall buildings interfering" then it was mobile towers then my service manager is telling me all BMW (including his) have the problem. |

So with the recent OTA update to 3.2021/50 and various iOS updates over last few months, I've decided to give Apple CarPlay another go. I'm happy to report that it is better but still the occasional audio dropouts (music via Spotify) for a second or two. However, it is vastly more useable as an alternative to Bluetooth.
The "black spot" near the Chandler Hwy section of the Eastern Fwy is a lot better. Previously ACP used to disconnect entirely and would take upwards of 30sec+ to reconnect. Now the audio drops out for 1-2 sec and everything is back to normal. I haven't gone through many toll points due to lockdown but will report here later. I can also report that our Audi Q7 using wireless ACP also drop out momentarily around the same spot in Kew. However, in the Audi, you have the option of plug-in CarPlay. |

If it's near your house it is probably your phone connecting to your home WiFi. This will drop CarPlay and AA. Most phones will default to WiFi that has internet connection, so it'll be higher priority than the car WiFi.

Apple car play drop outs
I had a 2019 330i and suffered from almost non usable apple car play due to drop outs.
I have recently taken delivery of my new 2022 M240i which also has i drive 7 and unfortunately the drop outs continue. I bought my wife a 2022 mini which use I drive 6 and she does not suffer from drop outs. I looked through the coding on Bimmercode and have change the 5ghz channel from 157 to 165 and at the moment i have had zero dropouts. Bimmercode Head unit expert mode connectivity 5ghz channel set to 165 instead of 157 |

I'm in Perth too and my generally reliable connection (iPhone) always drops out whenever I drive past Parliament House. I reckon they've got jammers ....!

I live in Stockholm, Sweden and drive a 330e 2022 (no LCI). My wireless CarPlay disconnects every time I pass a toll station in Stockholm. I've spoken to BMW service and they are aware of the problem but there's no solution right now. I contacted the authorities responsible for the toll stations and asked what type of equipment they are using and on what frequencies. The replied and said they are using the standard CED DSRC on 5.8 GHz. This is right in the higher band of WiFi 5G. My 330e (and all other 330e's I've tested) are running CarPlay och channel 157. That will collide with the toll stations. 5-series I've tried are running on WiFi channel 44 and will not collied with toll stations.
I tried to change to channel 165 as suggested in the tread by Madeley Wolf, but channel 165 didn't work with CarPlay (might be blocked in EU). Tried the lower channels (36, 40, 44 etc.) CarPlay was still back on 157. Then I tried with "unii_1_auto" (the name of the lowest band in WiFi 5G) and that worked fine. Now I can pass toll stations without CarPlay dropping out! These are the steps in Bimmercode: Headunit (HU_MGU) Expert Mode CONNECTIVITY_A4A WLAN_5GHZ_CHANNEL unii_1_auto |

My 2023 G81 with iDrive 8 has the occasional dropout, but far less than my wife’s G01 X3 iDrive 7 (as I replied about above).
