Just pull down in the direction of arrow 2. Those sliver metal clips are what the mirror slides on to the piece on the windshield. Just pull down in arrow 2 direction, maybe wiggle it a little, but hang on to the mirror- it detaches rather suddenly.

It depends on the mount and how it is installed. I have an Escort RL360c on a BlendMount and it sits tight to the mirror. I don't even notice it. BlendMount people are very helpful they will be happy to discuss your situation.

Thanks for the right up. Got mine installed today. Broke some tabs on the mirror housing but it's still secured and no rattling.

I found that there is NO need to remove the bottom plug. I was able to install the mirror wire taps while the plug was still installed in the rear view mirror.

I spent about 10 minutes trying to get the damn plug out then thought to myself, hey, there looks like there's more than enough room to install the taps without removing the plug at all. Alas, there was.

I'd suggest anyone else that is going to be doing this do the same as me. Leave the plug alone!

I was also not able to get the plug out - and no I don't recommend using pliers as it started to crack the housing of the cable ...eeek / so I ended up taking the mirror off the windshield, and there was enough slack to get the leads tucked in - then replaced everything.

Does your mirror now have limited movement with this mount? Or can it still pivot freely?

And how is visibility?

I can move the mirror yes - I haven't tried over extending it (all the way left/right/up/down) but minor adjustments to see out the rear work just fine... as for visibility, I was worried a bit at first, but after a day or 2 you get used to it and its like its not even there.

The black (ground) tap keeps coming. It doesn't stay in with the brown/black wire. The red one stays in, though.

Any ideas on how to secure the black tap?
Thanks!

I used small cable ties to keep things from moving around.

Sorry, trying to understand how a cable tie will keep the tap from coming out. For me, it comes right out - as soon as I move any part of the pieces, it comes out.

Unfortunately, I don't have the other sizes that were sent with the blendmount. I removed this one from the 2020 340i I had, and installing on a 2021.

Oh I didn't realize it was coming out that easy on yours. I'm using an existing wire tap from my F32 and while it was a tight fit, both taps went into the plug about halfway. I then used cable ties to secure the wire tap wires to other existing wires on that plug to keep the taps from sliding out.

Sounds like you make need to get get smaller pins for your wire tap. Or maybe use a dremel to grind down the taps and make them thinner…??

You pretty much answered your own question. You're going to need a different size tap.

I did this last night on my new m340i and it was BY FAR the easiest hardwire I've ever done.

I was having trouble pulling the trim off, then I realized from looking at the pictures posted here, it's clearly meant to be pulled apart, then removed.

So I started at the bottom corner facing me, and got my trim tool in there and it popped open with only a little pressure, and then continued that upwards. The two halfs disconnected pretty easily with ZERO broken tabs. Then they easily slid out to the left & right.

I was able to tap the harness without removing the plug or the mirror.

Once I stopped trying to pry the entire trim off from the top, it took me maybe 5 minutes start to finish.

I took mine (m340i 2021) to a car stereo shop and they were able to open the plastic housing but they said the power is constant on the mirror tap as they tested using multimeter and by locking the car but it didn’t stop the flow of 12-14v after 5 minutes or so. So as per them the radar will not turn off which seems odd to me. How long does it take for your radar to turn off once you lock the doors ?

Thanks
